I love this game but I'm frustrated by the progression barrier. I am level 10 and can barely win any encounters in Act 2. I play on Classic difficulty. I've only managed to kill some possessed dwarves and the Sourcerer girl in the healer's hut.
I tried the White Magister event with the endless black oozes that turn into fire oozes. It was a disaster. My party:

Tank/hydro cleric max out constitution with like 20 resurrection scrolls

Pure two-handed melee Knight

Pure pyro wizard

Huntsman/conjurer hybrid

Is this good enough at level 10/classic difficulty having barely done any quests in Act 2?

Should I get the talking to animals talent for more xp??

I like to roleplay thru everything failing quests and killing good guys and just accepting whatever happens. I don't backtrack and I don't feel the need to do every last quest, but I guess in this game you have to

Have you thoroughly explored the area with the possessed dwarves?

Well I managed to get some xp and the game has become drastically easier, so much that I wish I had played on Tactical difficulty.
Resurrection scrolls are game-breaking. Every merchant seems to have an infinite supply of them. Even in battles where I'm struggling, my tank with maxed out Constitution always stays alive and can resurrect everyone until I win.
Even if I don't have any scrolls left -- my ranger can use the jump ability to such a far distance that she goes "out-of-combat". Then she can literally take a waypoint -- while the rest of the team is stalling "in-combat", she can go to a merchant, buy a new stack of resurrection scrolls, then travel all the way back to the fight like nothing ever happened... LoL
Having one character be able to go out of combat and do whatever is another game-breaking exploit. I still love the art and style of this game though, they could have done something about these exploits, because it feels kind of cheap now and all battles have become trivial. The battle against Roost and Co. was a joke. My characters died so many times but i was still able to win on the first try.
I'm taking a break for a few days before I start Act 3, hopefully Act 3 is more challenging.
