The weapon you get from the flind heals you when it does damage, yet it doesn't trigger the effects of a couple of other magic items that cause effects when healing:
1) Whispering promise - apply bless to someone you heal. Given I can cast a heal on myself and receive the blessing, I'd think the healing from the flail would trigger this as well.
2) Broodmother's revenge - apply poison after getting healing. Any other source of healing seems to set this off, why not the flail?
Also, seems a little strange that ANY damage caused by the person holding the flail causes the healing. Best example is a pool of caustic brine left over from well before I ever got the flail. It was out in front of the druid grove and hours later some of my characters ran through it, took damage and the one currently holding the flail got healing. I'd think the healing would be limited to damage caused by the flail itself.
