Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - General Any word yet on companion endings?

One thing I'm very concerned about is endings with companion characters. I have absolute faith in Larion to deliver flawless stories and character interactions/friendships/rivalries/romances... but a recent DOS:2 replay has me a little worried that rocks will fall and everyone will be miserable in the end. I know that a lot of the problems with DOS:2 stemmed from bugs with the closing slides, but it was kind of a kick in the face after the characters went through SO MUCH together - especially romanced characters and the PC - only to part ways like strangers and never see each other again.

After seeing a couple of offhand comments from writers here and there, I'm slightly nervous that we may have a repeat of this in BG:3. I haven't seen any kind of reassurance from official channels. Anyone have any info I might have missed?

Any info about the ending of the game isn't going to come along for a looong while. We don't even have the entirety of Act 1 yet.

I haven't played many games that end with happily ever after for romances. The exeption was DA Inquisition at least for some of them.

Well most of my friends who played DOS:2 was quite mad about this. Larian has local official social media account in my country and reposted related some fanarts, you guess what, people gather in the comment of the reposted paint, expressed their dissapointment about the closing slides, that's really awkward, especially when people are really care about their LIs. One of my friends-the one who recommend DOS:2 to me-is quite sad even now when we talked about that skeleton, and so do I, cause I don't know what did I do makes my LI leave me in the ending.

Seems that they make wonderful romantic storyline in BG:3, and quite proud about it, make it a selling point(from the interview by Lead writer, https://youtu.be/qYD5HHKmVT8). That's insane if it goes the same way with DOS:2, you didn't miss anything, and sure the official resource didn't give any guarantee about the companion endings. I feel as anxious as you.

If there's any Larian staff reading this on the forum, please, be kindhearted. No more scums on Faerûn and no PC deserve a destined lonely life, give us more choice pls, that will make the forgotten realm warmer and brighter.

I agree that the closing slides in OS2 were terribly disappointing, but I doubt we'll know anything about the endings in this game until final release (unless they're included in a pre-release build for some reason and the dataminers get to them). At this point I'm not even sure if the closing slides have been written yet, much less voice acted, illustrated and coded.

Lets run down the list if we want happy ever ending between PC and:

Shadowheart, Gale: We are arm wrestling with deities.

Wyll: We have to be more attractive then a devil.

Laezel: we are lesser (proper word?) race to her ... proof her wrong?

Astarion: He is a 200yr old play boy, so ...

Seems all are up hill battles, and sky is the limit, in terms of difficult ... LOL🤣

Also, Lae'zel's whole race is canonically polyamorous and aromantic, so for her at least I'm pretty sure the picket fence is doomed!


In all honesty I don't care if it's not a "HEA" ending. I'd be happy with 'happy for now' or poly or hell, even 'staying in touch cause we're really good friends'. I wasn't specifically referring to romantic endings. DA:O managed this really well, with an essentially open long distance relationship with one companion character, the choice of a really tragic ending with the friend or LI weeping over your grave, the 'in love but can't marry cause racist political BS so the PC ends up the permanent 'consort', and a few others.. I don't think it has to be the syrupy "soul mates joined at the hip forever" to be a satisfying ending.

Hell, my angry and disillusioned half elf cleric who resents religion and hates his patron will likely never have that kind of ending anyway... but he's not going to turn down killing off Astarion's master and joining him in a revenge spree that incorporates as many orgy attendances as he can manage before he dies!

I'd also LOVE to see future repercussions for being hated by companions! Like maybe Lae'zel getting a jones on for your untimely death if you tick her off too much! Ooh or maybe Gale chasing you across the known world for hoarding all the relics and making him find his own items to eat!

Also why his ending will likely not be a happily ever after scenario!! But tadpoles make for interesting plot hole spak filla!!!
