I was surprised that Assassin wasn't one of the first available subclasses for rogue instead it was a trickster but I would love to see that subclass available as I cannot say how the assassin subclass is strong and awesome.
What are your thoughts about the Assassin subclass? smile

My favorite in the PnP. According to interviews, all of the PHB subclasses will be in the game, so this should in include Assassin.
My fear is that they change how it works though, like they did with Thief, which became a DPS class.

To my knowledge, the most recent (admittedly months-old) version is that not all subclasses may be present. But I think Assassin is going to make it in.

I do wonder about the features though. Surprised status seems to be random or finicky(?) and obviously they're not going to leave Infiltration Expertise and Impostor (on the off-chance we get to 13th level) as they are. Could make it or break it, which I care about since it's the archetype I usually play. :P

I'm curious how they handle multiclassing because with multiclassing you can create such broken builds it's stupid like warlock and sorcerer multi-class so you don't have to ever sleep (long rest) and you can stack forever sorcerer spells which only pisses of DM and bans it lol

Would have no quarry with them changing the social features of Assassin, since they will not be used in a video game, and replace it with something more combat focused. But changing Assassinate would make no sense, since it can be implemented as written.

Wasn't coffeelock Sage Adviced away? I think it was something about Pact Magic being enitrely separate from spellcasting, but I may misremember.

Yeah, neither would I, it's just a matter of what they replace it with. Tbh I kind of wish there were two takes on Assassin in 5e, "ambush predator" and "social stealthy killer". Now it's merged. It's not terrible, but I think I'd prefer that split. Btw, it's probably unrealistic for BG3, but it would be amazing if such social features DID work...

I don't think they're going to change Assassinate (much), but depending on how the game grants surprise it might be OP or garbage. (Just like in tabletop, I suppose.)

It'll probably be OP given that you can surprise in every fight and hide in every round. But between OP and weak I prefer OP, I hate nerfing.

That's true, though I'm not sure whether they'll leave hiding as it is. We'll see. I don't really expect groundbreaking developments on the Assasinate front.

And yes, I must say I'd rather err on the side of OP. It's a singleplayer game, so no great harm if not everything is perfectly balanced as all things should be. Better the game to be a tad too easy than a subclass to feel underwhelming. Though of course it's best to have it mostly balanced.

It doesn't feel like the surprise mechanic is 100% implemented yet, so I'm thinking they probably want to wait till it's more complete to put in the Assassin, since it's heavily dependent on suprise.
