Starting equipment in 5E is already pretty limited. In BG3, it's even worse. I'd like to see more equipment available to starting characters, and some ability to customise your starting equipment.

For sure, I agree too for more gear, I consider it all under a work in progress.

We demand a full armory on that Nautiloid! Considering the circumstances of the game start, I'd say we should get a bare minimum.

Not sure about armory ... But at least few dead bodies in same room as we are starting holding as much different amors, and weapons as possible ... that sounds to me like quite lazy to be honest but still acceptable way to get some specific starting gear. O_o
After all, that ship seem awfully empty. How many other victims we found? If im counting right, it seem like 13?
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!

I wouldn't want the ship to be full of loot, there's already a decent amount of money to be taken from there.
But they should make a starting equipment page of character generation, where we can pick out from a limited selection, like it is in pnp.

Like in D:OS2 and BG2 we start as prisoners. It makes no sense to have any starting equipment. Illithids use psycho powers when they fight, they have no need for an armory. Only their slaves would have weapons, maybe.
Our chars should start with nothing but normal cloth and we find the first weapon and armors on the corpses in the area from the battle between devils and illithids.

That isn't incompatible with selecting starting equipment. You just make the equipment you selected at character generation be what appears on the ship.

They obviously didnt bother to disarm and undress Lae'zel, or Shadowhearth ... why should our character get special threatment? Yes, we are prisoners ... prisoners that was simply teleported inside those illithid pods right from their usual day (or night in Astarion case i presume) where we were as it seems put into some sort of stasis, since Lae'zel is waking up, when pod is open ... also, none of us present any threat to any Mind Flayer, so why should they even bother with our sticks and stones?

This is an excellent idea - and something I wondered myself. Right now we are getting starting packages, not normal character customization. It isn't necessary to get people to start playing for an early access, but it is something we should expect in the formal release. 5e is wretchedly simplistic, but I really want the 3.5e options where you can take feats to have a character with feats that could even make them proficient with new weapons or armor. But, give the gp to start with, make it like a shop with a lot available to buy the items you want - but not with the crooked merchant mechanics they are using now. I certainly made an elven wizard that had to wait way too long to get a longsword to fight with.

I want a room with hidden chests that exists only in the EarlyAccess.
Containing all the items from the first act or so. ° Headgear chest ° Torso chest ° Glove chest ° Boot chest ° Melee weapon chest ° Ranged weapon chest
Ok I admit I saw this one on Nexusmod in another form. And the greedy me began to drool.

Or just have a travelling merchant wagon close to the crash site that stocks all the items you are able to buy as starting equipment per the PHB allowances. Yeah, it’s a bit contrived but not that unusual for the start of a RPG.
I think this would be easier for Larian to implement than updating the interface for selecting/buying gear while you are in character creation. It would also get you into the game quicker without overwhelming new players with options.

I think we should be snatched as level 15, fully equipped adventurers in our chosen class - and the Ilithids pop us - fully equipped - into the chambers.
And they should also snatch up our best adventuring buds, also fully leveled and geared, so we have our preferred comrades in arms with us.
And they should have a chest with a dragons treasure hoard conveniently waiting to be looted.
And be sure to crash right next door to Elminster's Enchanted Equipment Emporium and Discount House of Worship Gear - while a sale is going on.
And almost forgot - just before he dies by Demon, the head Ilithid should spout out his entire evil plan in detail, including all relevant allies, steps, goals and timelines.
And Drizzt should stop by with Baby Yoda in tow, because...Baby Yoda!!
