Hi all,

Has there been any talk about making it possible to cast spells like 'Friends' or 'Charm Person' *during* conversations? I'll get into conversations with NPC's without knowing if I'll need to make a check or not and find that I'd like the potential assistance without having to reset the whole conversation.

Apologies if this has already been addressed!

There's been some talk; most agree that they way they handle social spells needs to be fixed, because right now it's counter-intuitive and prevents most people from benefiting - you've either got to pre-cast for every conversation, not knowing whether it'll have something or not (such as detect thoughts), and wasting spell slots in the process.. not to mention the tedium of stopping to DO that before every conversation... or else not do that for every conversation, and just miss out without even knowing what options were where.

They absolutely need to handle this better; this is one place where stepping away from the written rules and adapting would be quite appropriate.

It's a confirmed upcoming feature, according to Swen VIncke.

I was not sure it even worked though.

It was the same interview with the the German streamer that was mentioned on this forum a few dozens times already.
The one Swen made barely days after the EA launched.

Among the confirmed features there were an interface for using spells during dialogues, the system to make other companions (and eventually players) interject during dialogues, the option to hide helmets (which was already added during the last patch), more classes and races already in the work, etc, etc.
Contextually, he also confirmed as an example that the game has already in place the option to "detect thoughts" for most NPCS but that's it's borderline useless currently precisely because the "social spells" interface is not ready yet.
And he explicitly mentioned "Friend" among the spells that would benefit from it.

It's not really "a major bomb". it's publicly available information that was already pointed on this forum repeatedly for the last two months and half.
And I'd "provide a link" if dwelling into the rotten swamp that is the twitch search function wasn't such a soul-draining experience.
