After saving the goblin Sazza from the tieflings' refugee camp, I got to the point where she introduces us to Minthara and gets sentenced to death by spiders. When she turned her pleading eyes on me in the cutscene, I chose the "I explained everything to her, she's just too stupid to understand" option, and the goblins started walking her towards the giant spider pit. I kinda felt bad for Sazza then, so at the last second I attacked the goblin who was going to push her in.

This started a huge battle with every NPC from Dror Ragzlin's area turning hostile on us. By some miracle I managed to keep Sazza alive through the fight.

After the battle was done, I got a cutscene where Sazza promises to become a hermit somewhere before leaving. My log got updated, saying we managed to save Sazza a second time and that she really owes us now.

Later I decided to explore the spider pit, and I still found Sazza's dead body down there.

The trigger for the body is set too early then - probably not expecting anyone would do what you did.

But not quite Schöedinger's Sazza as you are a valid observer and this is two instances of Sazza rather than Sazza in a quantum state. You may have switched universes to one where you didn't save her.

That explanation made reading this so much more "worth it" so, thank you!

Ha ha, great story. I mean, no, it's a bug. But I found it interesting for my own reason. I don't know how the code works, as far as events and journal are concerned, but I think it's not the only instance of triggers/flags/booleans not working properly.

On a different note : did anyone understand why Minthara decided that Sazza deserved death ? From what I remember it sounded like "if the Absolute had True Souls in the Druid Grove, it was surely for a reason, you shouldn't have messed with these plans, you lowly goblin". But I didn't find it very convincing. Because these True Souls, that is to say us, are perfectly capable of carrying whatever mission we were carrying and not get sidetracked by a goblin.

And now I am trying to think of other areas where we could possibly kill and loot a character twice in true murderhobo fashion (Grammarly doesn't recognize 'murderhobo'; bad spellchecker). I am wondering if animal-form druids are different 'characters' than human form druids. But that doesn't generate loot twice because they change back upon dying in animal form. Any ideas?

So... I just played through to that same part and... why did you want to help Sazza? Why change your mind?

She literally pretends you're her friend, brings you to her Drow master, and considers you her prisoner that her master could have fun poking holes into. She is killed for disrespecting a True Soul like yourself.

Now, I'm not much for getting her killed up to that point - but she just betrayed you. What pulls at your heart strings?

I legitimately could just let her die for the reasons you say. Especially since I was doing a neutral evil playthrough at the time. I guess my Lolth-sworn drow felt really frustrated at having to strike deals with a heretic like Minthara, so the second she was out of the room, I looked for an opportunity to undermine her authority behind her back.

It's just I dunno from a roleplaying standpoint, when your evil character only does evil things 100% of the time, the story gets really boring. To counterbalance that, I look for opportunities to do a minor good deed once in a while, so my character doesn't come out as a one-dimensional prick. So yeah maybe this evil drow warlock did end up massacring a whole grove-full of innocent refugees to win points with an evil cult she plans to betray later, but on the other hand somewhere there's a little goblin who didn't die thanks to her. I like that.

My Lolth-sworn drow let the bitch die, struck a deal with the Absolute-sworn drow, then betrayed her when she ended up attacking the Grove. Posted about that in the Feedback section.

Sounds like a cool playthrough, nice! For me, since I had already done that scenario in a previous game, this time I wanted to see what would happen if you stick with the goblins to the end. But I guess I didn't want Sazza to have to die because of it. Props to whoever animated her pleading puppy-dog expression in that cutscene!
