I also think this is key. Not just for convenience but also going back to the original promise of D&D and BG to deliver the serial style adventure in modules. That made if it feel like your character could go on into many different adventures in connected campaigns and such. I like the idea of using plot devices or conceits like the mind worm to explain a return to whatever base level is intended, where perhaps the character was developed already or has a special nostalgia.
So they can also do stuff like this...

Building on the idea of exporting the character across games, into sequels and the like. Or importing the character into a campaign ongoing, and just leveling up or down to where the protagonist is at. That would be nice
Right now the savegame organization is all over the place.
I'd like saves to be organized by character. Where we can see the party in the save preview, or even pull a character sheet.
