The background from my map has been missing on my most recent play through right from the start. Saving, reloading and entering new areas hasn't fixed it so far, and I'm nearly finished gathering up the initial quests and conversations in the druids grove.
It worked fine on previous play throughs and I haven't touched the graphics options so I don't think it would be related to any settings.
