I can confirm that a cat could climb a ladder so that form is fine. As much as it can be funny and dumb, I don't think there's any ruling on what can and can't. As funny as it can be to see something hoover or big climb a ladder, it's more a quality of life feature.
Additionally, even serious campaign modules are not serious 100 percent of the time, so this can just be a tiny bit of sillyness to complement the grim dark story.
