I didn't notice it as much with Silver, wolf in the Emerald Grove, because the fur hid it, but the walking animation, head size, Bulky tail, and leg geometry is off.

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

First off the walking animation almost looks like the wolf has a knee in its thigh rather than one piece that articulates at the hip. A canine of any species walks pretty similarly to humans on all fours with the exception of the bone lengths being different and walking Digi-trade versus on the heel. Next is the geometry of said legs, they are extremely pointy and seem to have a protrusion at the back of the front thigh, again there is no knee midway up the thigh of a canine.

Lastly, the head is just giant compared to the body and the tail expands out which just is not the case of canines. A canines head is slender and tapers away from the body. The tail also follows this convention by being thicker connected to the body and tapers to a point. Yes fur makes certain body parts look huge but if you are going to omit the fur technique in the back of the wolf wild shape then it just looks wrong to have the geometry be off like that.

Yes a lot of this could be hidden with better textures or the reintroduction of the fur. But in the long run the quality of the model is just not something you'd expect for a game of this size or quality.

I'll definitely second this; The wolf shape is quite badly made at the moment, and it looks even worse in motion. It doesn't move like a natural creature in any way, and that's at least partially due to the wonky anatomy. Their crippled-looking walk is my biggest gripe, honestly, but the anatomy is a contributing factor to this.

In particular, the ankles should be lower and closer to the toe joints; a little bit on the back, but a lot lower on the front. The front elbow joints (the weird leg protrusion you're pointing out is the elbow; the bend below it is the ankle, and the bend at ground level is the toes - these are all correctly configured, just positioned badly) look so wrong because the entire front legs have been dragged a long way back from where they should be, compared to where the wolf's shoulders should rightly be. The shaggy head is off-putting on the rest of the sleek body - they should match.

Even if our form is meant to be a dire wolf (some might say especially so), it should have a physical body that agrees with itself and makes good functional sense - these are efficient, dangerous creatures, not crippled abominations.

If you’re not a part of the Wolfheart FPS community, you should check it out. He’s very passionate about BG3 and wolves, and is often ribbing Larian on his streams for how bad the wolves look.

Mm, they should tweak the model to be more a wolf, though that should be a more later thing, a finishing touch for polish. Though I wouldn't say no to that change right now cause wolves deserve better.

In addition, I would like to add that they should have alternative (gender) models as well for some of the shapeshift forums (and preferably NPC mobs in general). Anatomically, in the wolf model case it is a male (>"mane" like fur, large muscle build, pelvic structure characteristic of male set; see Wikipedia/internet). If this game will ever have actual proper werewolves in it, moreover this becomes more relevant.

I know this is just pure game aesthetics critique, but it is annoying when every monster model uses the exact same (male dominate) type in every video game in existence, ever. I am aware having 2 means 2x the work, but alas in a game with straight-up sexual content with companions... it is a small ask, notwithstanding.

Indeed it is so...
