Trying to appeal to the masses of gamers out there is a monumental task for any company to take on. How do you please the old schoolers? How do you please the hardcore? How do you please the new generation? how do you please the storylovers? etc.... It is like having a group of different DMs from all walks of life coming together to agree on what one way of running a game/campaign is the best way. Pretty much not going to happen. A suggestion that I have been mulling around for Larian would be on startup to give the player 6 options to tweak the game to fit their playstyle/likes:

1. Weighted Dice
2. Hit%
3. Starting Feat/Background
4. Starting bonus ability
5. Bonus ASI
6. Reduced XP Gap

Maybe reward the players that use none of these tweaks with some sort of capstone reward/super cool & epic endgame cinematic at whatever the lvl cap turns out to be.

This would allow players, much like they would in finding a D&D group for the classic PnP, to play in a manner that they would enjoy. Something like this I would feel would allow Larian to please all types of gamers and create something that everyone can enjoy.

Hello Reckem - thank you for your feedback! It is refreshing to see somebody taking the differences of the DnD masses into account laugh

1. Weighted dice is now a thing - but can be turned off in the options.
2. As in a flat increase or decrease depending on difficulty/slider option?
3. Is being discussed among the community as we speak! laugh A lot of people are for it, but not everyone.
4. Interesting - I'll remain neutral at the suggestion. I could make do with or without.
5. As in a slider for adjusting difficulty? Or just flat for the entire game?
6. Again, are we talking that the player can use sliders to decide the required amount of experience or just... A flat exp reduction?

Hoot hoot, stranger! Fairly new to CRPGs, but I tried my best to provide some feedback regardless! <3 Read it here: My Open Letter to Larian

1. Weighted dice is now a thing - but can be turned off in the options. Yes. I have included this simply because it is already a part of the system that has the community divided and would be foolish to not include something that is already a part of what I am bringing up as a bigger view.

2. As in a flat increase or decrease depending on difficulty/slider option? I can not speak factually about this, only reference some other threads that I read through. There has been some chatter that because you can see hit % that it substitutes the classic way of doing combat from D&D and you can manipulate it by angles and positioning similar to XCOM.

3. Is being discussed among the community as we speak! laugh A lot of people are for it, but not everyone. The not everyone is another example of why it fits in this list. I feel by giving the OPTION to turn certain tweaks on or off would help bridge the gap between all player bases. This way they all can play the game the way they enjoy. As I see it a win win for Larian.

4. Interesting - I'll remain neutral at the suggestion. I could make do with or without. This is one of the ideas I saw tossed around in an earlier thread that seemed to have at least some viable support so I thought I would add it in.

5. As in a slider for adjusting difficulty? Or just flat for the entire game? Most likely a slider that ranges from 2 - 5. Again this idea was taken from an earlier thread and in the interest of appealing to all player bases added as a possibility.

6. Again, are we talking that the player can use sliders to decide the required amount of experience or just... A flat exp reduction?
I proposed a flat rate but I suppose that an adjusting slider could work as well. Of course if it was a flat rate then I am sure someone will just go find a mod that breaks it even further.

While all these different ideas are of how players think the game SHOULD be, there are those that should be remembered as well which is why I tossed in the capstone/cinematic idea for those that play with no tweaks at all. Of course there will be that modders that decides everyone could get the reward and just break it.... but then again that goes for any feature that modders can alter.

A similar system was used in a game known as Battletech. On startup you would go through and select the various tweaks that would raise or lower the overall difficulty of the game.
