So, some of you may be familiar with Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC), a tabletop product by Goodman Games (into rules here:
https://goodman-games.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/DCC_QSR_Free.pdf).
I've been playing D&D for maybe 40 years (??!!) and DCC for just about 5. I love both and DCC gets something very, very right: an obscene number of highly flavorful crit, fumble, spell malfunction, damage, etc. tables. This not only adds spice to the game but also removes some of the burden on DMs to be spontaneously and consistently imaginative (although that's always good).
What does this mean for BG3? Well a video game obviously handles large numbers of tables well. I for one am bored by the d20 animation in BG3. Sure, have it but why not expand on it with some gory descriptions of what happens? I realize this is visualized in permutations of animations but honestly in this combat format it isn't done that well. You could even use voiceovers to describe what happens when you hit, miss, fumble. A narrator to supplement animation?
Just an idea. There are probably better ways to handle supplementing the d20 animation but for me it almost detracts from the game as-is.
