Sorry if this has been discussed. I searched for other posts and nothing came up.
Why is there not a Ready action in the game, where you can move a character into a position and then ready certain actions like you can in D&D? I am surprised that is not a thing already with the number of actions (shove, help, etc) that we have available. I would think this would already be included.
I recently downloaded and played thru Solasta to check it out and I must say, for a game without a WotC license and only using the 5e SRD, the interface and some of their implementation seems to be better than BG3 in regards to feeling like actually playing a D&D game. I get that BG3 is still early access, but I am talking things that you would think to be already implemented early on... like the ready an action.

Thanks for adding your voice here and joining the fight !
The ready action is one of those things a lot of us are asking for monthes.
Let's hope Patch 5 will please us and let's hope they won't add it as another bonus action^^

I often feel I am being too critical, and on an island of my own, as an old-timer (40 years of playing/mainly DMing D&D this year) but I want a turn based video game that is close to a RL D&D experience and I feel this can be it!

The absence of ready action is really bizarre for me. While I could at least understand (if definitely NOT agree with) an argument for being wary of adding "pop-up reactions" since "they would break the flow of the action" (and we could have a long discussion about this anyway, since it's not really clear how injecting more player inputs in the queue of "watching the fight unfold by itself" would be a bad thing) there would be literally NO downside on having ready actions in the game.

Nope. You are 100% right. Ready actions add so much to the game tactically and I can't imagine them not being available. Thankfully I think this aligns with Larian's goals of "giving players more to do" so we should see it soon.

I presume they are not implemented yet, since Larian are kinda struggling with how to implement them technicaly ... so far everything is button = action ... corect me if im wrong, but i dont remember any button in game that would alter function of another button. O_o That would mean that they would need to implement "ready" spells for every single spell separately ... wich would be ridiculous. :-/
Anyway, i also hope we get "ready" ... i would not even mind to wait for it for some "patch 6/7/8/..." if implemted properly to be honest.
But im not quite sure if i want to see it with curent reactions ... I mean, if Larian implements "ready" action as "set your target and cast when and only WHEN target will get to range" ... it would be kinda fine, to keep it automatic ... but if they implement is as "ready your spell and cast when ANY hostile target gets in range" ... that would be a new source of huge frustration. :-/

Though if they somehow have to choose one, I'd prefer the former more general option. It'd be less frustrating to waste a readied attack on the wrong enemy than to not use your readied action at all because specific enemy didn't do X.

If you haven't see the game, check it out. You could set a melee or ranged Ready action for your non-casters depending on their equipped weapon and for casters you could ready a cantrip spell or melee attack. If an enemy came into range, you attacked. Heck, if you want to see it put into use where you can ask to see different scenerios, let me know and I will stream it for you.

Yeah i know ... Personaly i would also totally prefer popup confrimation for reactions ... Some people say it "breaks" combat flow, but i would rather have something to do instead watching enemies doing their turn.

I suspect that automatic reactions are something Larian is going to insist on keeping for "better game flow" no matter how many people complain that it reduces the amount of player options and choice.
