Some minor spoilers ahead...nothing you wouldn't already have found out if you've played the game for a few hours.....

So far from the storyline it sounds like the mind flayer tadpoles take a certain amount of time to turn you into a mindflayer, but there's something different about my group and it's taking longer (or not happening). I was just wondering if there's any sort of time limit - if i rest at camp X number of times am I going to wake up a mindflayer? At the start of the game I was holding off on camping because I assumed I had a time limit. But it's starting to look like there isn't one. Or at least it's not as short as it first sounded.

Just trying to decide what quests to complete - if i need to focus on removing the tadpole first or if i can do some of the other quests instead.

thanks

If you play through the game a bit you should get your answer and in fact should already have been told something.

The tadpole is essentially halted, the only way to progress it rn is to use the Tadpole powers and even then it isn't turning you into a mind flayer. They are special and someone or something is keeping it from transforming you, ostensibly so you can be a "beautiful weapon".

Cannonicaly its 7days ... for regular tadpole.
(If im not wrong laugh )

But ingame there is no time limmit, or amount of long rests that would turn you into Mind Flayer ...
Since you can withness metamorphosis on the ship, started by "pulling the lever" ... i believe its safe to presume that this is the only way this alterned tadpole can turn you.

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

The only thing i remember being told is one of the characters mentioning that we should have already turned...or already started showing signs of turning. Anyhow, that's all i really wanted to know. Just wanted to make sure resting in camp wasn't running down a timer. Thanks

No. this is totally different sort of ceremorphosis. In standard Mindflayer Ceremorphosis the tadpole consumes your brain in a matter of hours and then starts transforming your body. After a week you are a newborn Mindflayer, which then requires 20 years to mature and train.

This ceremorphosis is different where it doesn't consume your brain at all but seems to instead turn you into a type of sleeper agent. I expect what we saw with the first trailer is very much going to happen in Baldur's Gate, where
at some sort of signal or magical trigger - hundreds or maybe thousands of people will suddenly be turned into mindflayers.

This seems to also bypass the need to raise and educate the newly formed mindflayers
.

Basically, the game tells you that there is a time limit, and encourages you to move as quickly as possible, and it's only when you do rest several times that you get told that it's not progressing as quickly as it should.

In fact, there's no time limit at all, and you will be punished for not resting after every event - that is, you will MISS content unless you rest nearly constantly after every major fight and every event that occurs. The game undermines itself quite badly in this respect right now.

Chances are if you've been 'holding off' then you've already locked yourself out of some content paths with at least one of the companions, due to not resting frequently enough to see all of his content.
