Lae'zel is fine, for what and who she is. And you're never going to be friends with all your companions at the same time in the same playthrough - that's part of the game.
There is nuance, or at least the beginnings of it, and I believe once we are able to go to the Gith Creche her story will really start to unfold. (And her mental state will probably start to unravel!)

It's possible but it's really hard.

I agree, there already is nuance in Lae'zels character. She is a typical daughter of her harsh society, yet she shows hints of doubt already (we shouldn't forget, that EA only shows a fraction of the story yet).
I can see Lae'zels douot starting to grow over the course of the game. I doubt, that she will ever become a good character and has a redemption arc, but she might change her views a bit.

I am not disagreeing, but I think it just needs to be toned down and given nuance a bit.
OK well I guess what you are missing here is that people do not see a need to tone it down. She is evil. That is how she comes across. Do you tell the person who is about to gleefully slay your family because they think that is fun to tone it down?
OK, you might, but do you expect that to work? None of the companions are there to live up to your expectations. This is how Larian is presenting it. If you do not like how Lae'zel does things, what she wants you to do, and how she talks, leave her at camp. Take Gale. He will adore you for every nice thing you do.
Toning her down is a disservice to the players who want a bloodthirsty, edge-lordy companion.
