I personally would be fine with some kind of very schematic animation, that would just show the status of both characters, but would not connect them.
Yeah, given the extremely general nature of grappling in 5e this would make sense – it's literally just placing one hand on your opponent, and doesn't restrict that opponent's actions at all, so at most having the grappling model reach a hand toward the grappled model would be enough.
In a similar vein, I'd love for Shove to be able to knock enemies prone, like it does in 5e. Presumably that's not in the game for some balance reason, but putting it on a Fighter ability or some such would make me very happy.
