The more I play, the more I hate this UI...

Icons are sooo 1990s, and worse yet, here icons pop up then disappear, then pop again elsewhere... so confusing!

Yes like so many others, I think Solasta did it right, but I believe BG3 can go a little further with Ribbon UI that you can see in MS-Office programs.

For example :

- Divide the commands mainly in 2 ribbons : 'Action', 'Bonus Action' where you'll regroup mostly used actions, etc.
- To the above add 'Spells', 'Potions', 'Feats' ribbons, etc.
- Finally a custom ribbon which player can edit freely

UI is driving me nuts. It's so time consuming. I just spent forever rearranging everyone's, then leveled up and had to do it all over again.

Yes, WotR is better here, too.

What I would like to see:

a) Assignable hotbar where you put everything you want often manually
b) Additional tabs for spells/skill, arrows, scrolls, other consumables

Definitely not a fan of the current UI either.
It's one of these systems that probably started with the idea of "making everything simpler" but turned out to be utterly inadequate for the design goals of the game' systems, so all the subsequent attempts to "improve" over this foundation keep failing.
The proverbial "trying to put lipstick on a pig".

Honestly I think they should just give up on trying to salvage the hotbar system and start some side project just focused on remaking a new UI from scratches.
...Of course, while not forgetting to ditch the chain system on the process, as we are on it (yeah, yeah, I know. Like a broken record).

The UI needs a redesign in many areas. The inventory management is atrocious, trading is painstaking because you have to move everything to the trading character and then interact with the merchant, as you have stated here the spells/items/features/etc on the hotbars are clunky and time consuming to deal with.

Even if that was true there si nothiing wrong with it that just your bad taste...:) THat style would be better than any crap they make nowaday in movies or games... On other side i do agree about functionality and that is the only thing worth talking about anyway.

I never liked the look of Solasta UI but functionality was fine.. Better than what we have here.
But in no way or shape would i like to have that look a space - modern age, zen look in a medieval fantasy Crpg...

I think it would be okay with three small changes:

1. a hidden window (like the combat screen) that contains all the character's potions,
2. another hidden window that contains all the character's scrolls, and
3. a command to bring up a 'spellbook' overlay where spells can be selected.

Other than that, keep it the same. Frequently used stuff can still be on the hotbar, but the scrolls and potions have their own drop side window to keep the hotbar from getting cluttered. And while the frequently used spells can be on the hotbar, the rest of the spells can be brought up by pressing something like "S" on the keyboard.

Larian should just make a fully modular UI and let the players move around bars and icons as they please. Or just leave it to the modders to create a functional UI for them

Solasta did it best except they needed hotkeys for fast access. UI was wonderfully organized without needing any customization at all. Wasn't needed because it was simple, easy and organized wonderfully.

Besides hotkeys, the only thing I'd add is a quick item access button/hotkey as opposed to Solasta's "you can only use 1 item at a time rule."

I like Pathfinders UI with the pop-up type of spellbook and actions menu.

I don't particularly like it, but at very least it does some things better than the nude "fillable hotbar" Larian serves us.
Frankly I think that both Solasta or PoE II had a better compromise for what would be needed in D&D.
