That is effect of active Larianization ...
1d8 was removed from every Orb type (except for Thunder) and Orbs now create surface effect instead ...
Note that not all Orbs create even damaging surfaces ... as far as i know (didnt try, just read it here) Poison create poisonous surface, that cause disadvantage IF your oponent fail saving throw, and only for that long as long that oponent stand inside that poison pool (wich means until start of his turn) ... acid reportely create surface that is reducing AC of people standing inside ... and frost create icy surface that can potentialy knock your enemies prone.
Also note that all those surfaces can and probably will affect all your friendly players that are on meele range, unless you sacrifice your precious Sorcery points (and ability to cast Twined spell, since you can pick only one metamagic at once) and give them automatic saving throw.
And finaly note that none tooltip tells you litteraly anything about those surfaces, so you simply need to try and then either remember or write it somewhere ... bcs tooltips are not helpfull at all. :-/
