So I am glad to know you can definitely play the game solo, without anyone in your party or camp.
It is quite easy. No exploits needed and the game seems to acknowledge you for it.
To do so like I did:
1. Let Lae'zel accompany you and avoid Shadowheart in the nautiloid.
2.let her die when you are going for the transponder. her corpse will appear at the beach where you start Act 1.
3. She will not be in your party. Do no resurrect her.
4. Avoid all known locations where you have initial interactions with companions. Going to the Goblin camp will spawn Shadowheart next to you no matter what.
This will allow you to play the game is if you were all alone. Its actually enjoyable. The adventure feels a bit more daunting (in a good way).
Unfortunately, there is a game breaking bug once you get to the goblin camp. Because you have no one in your party/camp, specifically Shadowheart, then she will spawn spawn next to you as you enter the goblin camp.
Because I was committing to my solo playthrough I still refused her to join me. The game gave me an option to and my character was roleplaying as some anti-social introvert. Well, Shadowheart got a taste of her own medicine and it seems all is well.
I keep playing but I realize things in my game are starting to act funny. The big thing is once I try to buy or sell something, the game crashes to desktop. Sometimes When I move equipment around on my character and inventory too. My guess is because of this cutscene when shadowheart's artifact saves me.
I don't have the artifact but the game thinks I do because of the cutscene? I don't know. What I do know is it broke my game and its odd seeing as everything was fine up until this point. I even went to Grymforge by skipping the goblin camp. the goblin camp was just the last area for me to explore.
I was a Drow "urchin" thief, and I have to say if any class is meant to solo the game, its a Drow thief.
