Hi, y'all. I've been reading the forums for a while, but this is my first post.
I've run into two game-stopping bugs while running patch 1.44.
The first seems to be an odd mouse-centering thing. When I save a game on the overland section of the Act I battlefields, about half the time when I load it, the screen will insist on scrolling down continually. I thought this had to do with a gamepad I had connected, but I've recently found it happens even when the gamepad is disconnected. There isn't a stuck keyboard button, either, since other games with similar control schemes run just fine. Rebooting and reloading fixes the problem.
The second problem has to do with the overland battlefields and critical hits. After reading on the forums how crits were better point expenditures than base damage, I re-did my Knight's two-handed slashing skill from 6 acc 4 dam to 6 acc 1 dam 3 crit. After doing that, whenever I crit a creature on the overland act 1 battlefields, either the minimap, the action screen or both go black. Reloading, or entering/exiting the battlefields, fixes the problem. (Well, until the next crit...)

I've had the black-screen problem only when I play a saved game from a previous version (any previous version). I know the patch notes say it won't affect you're saves, but it never happens in my fresh saves. Are you running a patched save or a fresh save?
I had a similar problem with menu scrolling in Morrowind, and it had something to do with my mouse (touchpad) setup. Just touching all bases here, so bear with me. Are you using a touchpad or running any software that enhances your mouse, gives it extra functions, etc.?

Thanks for the reply!
When the black screen problem first showed up, it was under a 1.43 save running under a 1.44 patch. Recently, though, the same thing happened on a fresh save. I was attacking a patrol in Citadel IX when the game screen went black, and had to jump in and out of the battlefields to fix the problem.
As to the other... I have a perfectly standard optical mouse with no strange software installed, ditto for the keyboard.

Best thing I can think of would be to zip up your save folder and send it into support@larian.com, then you might want to try unlearning the skill, save, reload, and redistribute the points. This helps me with some skill problems I run into. As for the scrolling borplem, I don't kno what to tell you. You could try backing up your saves then uninstall/reinstall/repatch the game. I'm one of the few people on the board whose been lucky enough not to have many major problems, so I can't give much experienced insight, perhaps someone else can help you further.

Have you tried pressing your "x" key to center the map on your party?
Just a thought

I tried all the fixes suggested, and though the scrolling problem is still there, at least it's been isolated.
The scrolling bug happens whenever I play , save and exit the program, play something else, run a few other applications, and then try to run again and load a saved game.
Rebooting is the only thing that seems to clear this up, and it works every time. I don't suppose it'd be possible for to clean at startup whatever relevant files a reboot cleans?
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, fully updated, and have a standard Logitech keyboard and optical mouse setup with none of their extra software installed.

Things I've run in between sessions of leading to the scrolling bug include combinations of
MS Office Maple (math program) Adobe Acrobat Adobe Photoshop Oni Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb Tribes 2 Unreal Tournament 2004 AOL Instant Messenger
and other assorted games and applications.

Hmm... Don't really see anything there that I know for a fact would cause the problem, though I've had some graphical problems after running any Adobe-line programs (they seem to use way too much RAM and leave traces behind after closing). All I can suggest is make sure the programs are completely shut down before you play again, and always close all brograms running in the background that you don't absolutely need to play the game. Sorry I can't help more.
