I have a very noisy cd rom and was wondering if anyone has any idea where I can find a no cd fix for Beyond Divinity, or does anyone know how to quieten the stupid machine. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

There is not a no-CD hack yet, that I know of. I have no idea if any CD-ROM emulator programs can fool the copy protection. Depending on how much you use your CD-ROM, you might want to consider getting a DVD drive (just about as cheap as CD-ROM drives) to replace / supplement it. Slower drives tend to be quieter, as well as cheaper.

I know there are sound proofing materials for computers, as well as various methods to reduce vibration between drives and the case, but don't have any experience with them.

Personally I don't really see what is such a problem with CD rom noise in BD. The game only spins the disk once when you start up the game. After that, you shouldn't even hear of it again. I mean, seriously, hearing your cd-rom once every startup... how bad can that be?

For some reason, on my XP machine and a few others I've seen, if the computer boots up with a CD in the drive, the system calls for a CD-ROM spin up at random times, especially when there was a legitimate call from a program running at the time. I get this a lot when running old Duke Nukem 3D v1.5, which only called the CD to check copyright. Raze is right, though. If it's bothering you, go sound-proofing so other games don't bother you as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll just put up with it until Ive saved up enough for a new one, might just get a CD rom DVD combined, and upgrade properly.

one of a few industrial sound-proof materials that i know;

1. ear plugs
2. head phones
3. pop-corn (somebody told me it works)
4. a louder-than-cd-drive audio tracks

one way is to put your computer case on the floor so it won't be ear-level anymore. the advice on better cd or dvd drive is very sound. there are some brands that have very quiet drives. asus, lite-on for example.
