I think Warlocks who take the subclass Great Old One should get the ability to cast Detect Thoughts at will, as an action, but not at the cost of a spell slot.

This is probably the only way for this subclass to even work.

Tadpole communication has shown that telepathy can work in a computer game - albeit as a scripted dialogue - but has also made Awakened Mind superfluous.

But, Detect Thoughts (along with Phantasmal Force, and where's that got to?) is part of the GOOlocks expanded spell list, so getting it at level 1 to replace AM would be robbing us of our unique sub-class spell at L3. Unless you mean we get it as an additional no-spell-slot-required spell at L3 (or as an extra Eldritch Invocation perhaps) - which I wouldn't complain about too much!

I suppose AM could be interpreted as an advantage on CHA (WIS?) rolls, like Friends but maybe without the risk of people turning hostile.

I'm thinking things are only going to get worse for the GOOlock, how's Sending going to be implemented? Lazy and Wyll both use the Tadpole to talk to you, so again the GOOlocks trick is superfluous (I know other classes can use the spell, but it is something that sets the GOOlock apart from the Fiendlock).

Late to the party here, but id say letting Goolocks have access to that shield Nere casts on himself would be a good suggestion too!

Compared to Fiend locks goolocks are really lackluster imo.
