hi all,
i'm having problems in the above referenced area. potential spoilers ahead for that area.

i can't get past that group of skeleton mages. i haven't found a battlefield key yet, and am at l5. i have 3 skill points saved up that i could put in sneak, but i don't really want to. i've tried luring them out one by one, but to no avail. those dudes are smart. i understand there is a battlefield key at the first area, but i can't seem to get back to it. i did cheat a little and i see there is a battlefield key dead ahead after this encounter, but i can't make it through. any hints?

There's a battlefield key at the very beginning of the game, in a locked chest. The key is on the spiders in the arena. (Supposing you haven't locked it with the iron bar)

well dear poster, I've had huge problems in that area as well.
I've tried 8 times before finally succeeding.

here's how I managed to do it:
Some how I got the skeletons pinned in the lower-left corner, from then on I just let my chars fight and I paused a lot to use ALL of my health potions + some restoration potions. don't worry to lose them all because:
<span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> you'll find the battlefield key in the next room and thus you can buy a lot of potions there and gain exp. </span>
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

hope this helps

An easier way is to use a bow with normal arrows it will not be that hard.

thanks for all the suggestions. i wandered back to the 2nd level hoping i could get back up to the 1st and hit the battlefield, but the door to the stairs to is is locked and "no normal key can open it". doh. anyway, i'm going to stock up on potions and try the skellies again. oh well, at least i'm not the only person having trouble with them.

you surely are not the only one... they are indeed TOO difficult at that time in the game... 2 or 3 of them might have been more do-able

well, thanks to some help from y'all and going back and finishing the tooth quest i was able to get through. it still took about 4 times, each time oh so close, before i made it through. the skeleton friend helped a bit. now i'm at the first battle field. i realize i need a pack mule. also, the skills are expensive! i really don't love this skill system. still having fun though. thanks again for the help/hints!

The skills are cheaper if you find teachers in the main game. The BF traders tack on a surcharge for the convenience of being able to get there just about whenever you want.

bastages!

oh well, as long as i'm here, a few more general questions if you good folk don't mind.

do you get the teleporter stones in act i? holy maloney it's a long way from the bf dungeons back to the traders. i'm thinking of rejoining the main story and finishing the bf later just to get them.

i take it once you leave an act, you can no longer access that bf. but can you get back to previous acts maps? i'm looking to store some gear somewhere, but don't want to lose everything if i move forward in the story without loading up all my crap first.

what determines duration of summon dolls? one of the times i summoned the first one, he hung around until he got caught on the wrong side of a wall (with the dk). when i reloaded, the summon doll disappeared and whenever i resummon (still on the same level) he disappears after a while.

whenever you resummon, they still had all the gear from before, right?

thanks again for all the help so far....

Nope, you get them in act 2. Also, why not just exit, then re-enter the battlefields? Right back at the traders. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Can't get back to previous acts. Not sure why'd you want to store gear anyway. :x

I think it just stays summoned as long as it's in the general area of where it was summoned. I don't know though. I only use dolls as trap "disarmers" :P

thanks! i thought about leaving and re-entering. looks like the best option for act i. basically i'm lazy and don't want to have to walk all the way back. i'm so loaded down with stuff though i don't see any way around it.

also, i'm a horrible pack rat. that's why i want to store stuff. need weapons that do different kinds of damage. i'm holding every book and manuscript i've come across so far. and i'm loaded down with alchemy plants, even though i don't have a point in it and haven't decided if i'm going to. that doesn't even begin to count rope, iron bars, and all the other crap i've picked up along the way. plus, i'm eventuall going to have to outfit other summon dolls, right? i need stuff for them. and then there's the....you get the picture.

I'm not sure why the pyramids are even in this game. I've never used them except to get into the Treasure Cave in Act 2. :x

Also, what are you, kender? Stealing everything that's not nailed down? :P

hey, sometimes i want fruit. sometimes i want cheese. i have to keep all my books and stuff.

hell, if you think my packrat habits are bad, you should see what an itenerant pixel farmer i am. one dark spot on the map and i send my party running halfway across the area to uncover yet another patch of mushrooms....

it's a sickness, i know. but what can you do?

I always sell as much as possible, yesterday I sold 2 awsome 2-handed swords because I'm going for melee with shield so ...

Q: if my char is using a sword and a shield.. should I skill him in the melee one-handed skill or the melee with shield... because the meaning of the skills is not that obvious to me

a GOOD explenation of the skills is what I miss the most in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> that a real shame Larians <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

You need the 1 handed with shield skill if you are going to be using a shield.

should I invest in both ??
