Just wanted to say what a cracking game DD is - has finally filled by post-BG vacuum/depression.

Also all praise to both this forum and those who use it - remarkable free of the usual crotch-grabbing, blade waving and tiresome sniping/one-upmanship you usually find.

Off to fillet orc....tata

PS read that 'Top 10' RPG thread....very interesting as I only really have played BG (all episodes) Fallout and Planet Dreamscape (...is that wot it's called..can't rem now...v easy I thought) To my shame, have never played Ultima, which everyone seemed to rate. Still available or have I missed this phenomena??????

Welcome to the forum! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> We are glad you are here! Much to my chagrin...I have not played Ultima either. Maybe this should be kept a secret around here...There seem to be alot of Ultima fans on this forum! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> ( maybe there are still some copies in circulation? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> )

I played a couple of the Ultima games on a Nintendo console, IIRC. I tried to find a computer version, but couldn't turn up much except Ultima Online. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

There is a group recreating Ultima V: Lazarus using the Dungeon Siege engine. When they are done, they hope to get permission from Origin to distribute it. However, from the fine print, it looks like you have to own a copy of the original PC game, as well as Dungeon Siege.

Raze, are you saying you have to have Ultima Online and Dungeon Siege to get this new Ultima game? Is it the Ultima v I see there? Or is that a older game?
This is Mslynx being uneducated in the ways of Ultima... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

It being made by fans, basically re-creating the old Ultima V from scratch, so the requirement to have the original game is for legal reasons. If they ever get a response from Origin, that restriction might be lifted (my guess/hope that that might be possible). Dungeon Siege is required since it is basically being built as a mod to that game, rather than a stand-alone game.

They sell the Ultima Collection...you can probably find it if you try hard enough. It has Ultima 0 (Akalabeth) through Ultima 8 on it, including the addo-ons to Ultimas 7 and 7.5, but not the Worlds of Ultima games (The Savage Empire and Martian Dreams, which are really cool too). They are all DOS games though, not easily run nowadays, especially Ultimas 7, 7.5, and 8. But there is a freeware program called Exult that will run the Ultima 7 games, and I think DOSBox might run the others.

The Ultima games were the whole reason I fell in love with CRPGs, and still stand as the best in the genre, IMO. DD is a worthy successor to that legacy. If I had more time I would spout off for hours on them...

Game on,

Um ... I have some packages of some Ultima games I bought on a flea market last year ... I haven't played them since ...

I think I should put my focus on them, but Wizardy 8 and Age of Wonders : Shadow Magic stands in its way ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
