surround the henhouse with upside down carpet runner stuff. you know, those big sheets of plastic that you put under your desk chair if it's on a carpet... if you put it spiky side up they won't walk on it. i've also heard they won't walk on orange plastic fencing, the temporary kind they have at cunstruction sites.
