ok, so i bought a new litter to try on my cat. it's this weird silica bead type litter. i was just wondering whether anyone knew anything about this kind of litter? all i could find on the internet was product descriptions. it's called Premium Choice Litter Beads. the only reason i bought it was because the girl at the store said she loves it and it's good at odor control, which i need for my stinky kitty. anyone know anything or had experiences with silica litter?

I forgot, ask me tommorrow, and I'll check for you, or just wait 10 minutes for me to check.

Litha only uses kitty litter if no-one will let him outside. If you can get them to go outside (when they're old enough), it'll be so much easier.

i'm not letting my kitty outside. i live in an apartment right behind a very busy parking lot, and behind that is a very busy street. no outside kitties here. it's too dangerous, plus the added risk of weird diseases.

So long as he doesn't turn out to be an outdoors cat. A friend of ours won't let her cat out because she's too lazy to get it vaccinated. He in not an indoor cat. He pounces and plays and terrorises every other animal in the house.

Faile read this! and for you apt dwelling cat, i would go with "scoop away" a clumping cat litter! it's a bit more pricy but worth it! and it smells nice. "Clumping is good because you need only replace the burgerlike patties rather than dump the entire litter box and start over again."

NO!!!!!! DO NOT USE CLUMPING CAT LITTER!!!!! There is a chemical in it that can make some cats (not all) very sick, to the piont of death. The chemical gets stuck in their fur (especially long haired) and then when they clean themselves - they ingest it. Faile - i would ask you SPCA what they think...but for donations to min e - they will NOT accept clumping cat litter. I hope this helps...i really would stay away from anything that is not natural (same reason you do not eat beef right - not natural anymore) Oh - and the more expensive the food - the softer hsi coat will be. However, Iams has been bought by procter and gamble, and now has tons of fillers in it. My kitties get techni-cal.
Okay - that is my two cents.

Oh, Spick, my Kessy was a stray and spent about 7 yrs outside, looking desperately for a home. I took her and this stray refuses to go outside - exceptions: it's not too warm/cold - the sun has to shine and I have to be with her in the garden. She seems to be sick and tired of spending her time outside, although the garden is secure, quiet and full of nice little hiding spots. She prefers the bed, the couch and her own rocking chair with a soft blanket - and if I don't take care, she loves to sleep in my sweaters. She hates rain, snow, fog, too much sun and PCs = little princess, hm? Kiya
BTW, she's about 14 yrs now, says my vet.
Pucki on the other hand was unhappy if she had to stay inside. She was put in my hands as an ill little bundle of 4 weeks, descendant of wild stray cats. I had to tame her first - but she loved rain, snow, dewdrops on leaves and sleeping outside.
I've had cats who wanted to be outside and others who refused - stubborn bunch

My ginger tom, Cagney, comes in ,eats his Felix and buggers off out again, very rarely stays in at all, where as my black and white bitch ,Lacey, loves the indoors, will stay in all day if she could but still spends the whole night out.

all of my kitties are outdoor types unless it's raining heavily with pretty strong wind. i live near to the sea so .... .
cats are very resourceful & they'll always find a way 2 get someplace. which is why i never worry about my kitties no matter the weather. unless it's flood which happens at least once a year here (king tides + rainy season) then my sis & i will have 2 'rescue' them & put them in their second home which just below my house(which is on 9-foot stilts), where it's warm & far from my room, which can be very noisy when i play games.
about litter, my kitties do it nature's way(find a secluded place with sandy ground & ...). fortunately i don't find their litter on my footpaths...

Ah, yes, about litter: Both, Kessy and the wild Pucki scratched at the door and demanded entrance if they had their natural "feeling" - even the soft flower patches are too "proletarian" for them = they want their litter box. I've got 3 kingsize of them in seperate rooms, so they have their privacy. Now only 2, Kessy insists on them. They have a roof. (Pucki died this year in April)
When I still had Ferdi, I had to have one additionally without roof, he didn't like it, refused to go inside and was so kind to show me his disapproval by "using" the ground in front of it or the bath tub. This was the way he educated me in everything, BTW. He went to the bathroom and showed me his disapproval, a real tyrant - even though I had him castrated with 6 months (a bit early) he still behaved like a he-cat, too dominant. Well, my former boyfriend has him now. Though I got him with 2-2 1/2 weeks (found abandoned in a thorn hedge and had to be cut out of it, was brought to me then) and had to feed him with the bottle (very close relationship for 7 yrs), I lost his heart when he met my boyfriend for the very first time. When we seperated, both mourned for one another deeply - so I gave Ferdi to him. But I still have him for a visit when my Ex is on vacation
Jeez, cat stories, I can go on for days Kiya

Ah, no, not offending, it just shows how independant cats are in giving their heart away - and I love independance.
Maja (neighbour cat) left her owner and wanted to stay with me, wanted my PC room to give birth to her young ones. The owner was not amused, she took mother and kittens back - Maja returned several times and was so angry with my "betrayal" that she showed her disapproval just like Ferdi in the bathroom. She tried to bring her kittens several times, but I informed the owner always and returned the little ones.
I was sad about the owner's decision, because I believe that love is letting go and giving freedom of choice not trying to force, hold back and keep against will. This is why I let Ferdi go, too - though it hurt a lot Kiya

I don't think love hurts - what hurts is not wanting to let go of what is inside oneself: Dreams, memories, fix ideas and emotions e.g.
I'm glad to see Ferdi now and it touches me still every time when I see the loving reunion of man and cat afterwards - doesn't hurt anymore. Ferdi and my Ex are happy with one another - Ferdi decided and I had to follow his lead, was a good lesson in letting go. Kiya
@Janggut: We're all three on very good speaking terms - there are more ways to keep a good relationship than only on the partnership lvl. In fact some of my ex-partners are good friends of mine, it's always a matter of time (my XP). It comes down to one point (in my XP again): Let go, take care of the hurt ego and then look what's left - in some cases a lot was left and this was the basis for a friendship (enjoy what I liked and leave the rest up to other females to bother with )

though i still don't get it(male cat leaves an alluring female for a guy), i appreciate your kind thoughts on both of your EXes(X-boy & X-cat).
well at least u're still on speaking terms(u & ferdi, i mean). good 4 u!
btw, doesn't change my mind on 'love hurts' as love means taking the chance 2 open yourself up 2 another person & risking yourself 2 be hurt by that person or yourself. it's a choice however.
