NO!!!!!! DO NOT USE CLUMPING CAT LITTER!!!!! There is a chemical in it that can make some cats (not all) very sick, to the piont of death. The chemical gets stuck in their fur (especially long haired) and then when they clean themselves - they ingest it. Faile - i would ask you SPCA what they think...but for donations to min e - they will NOT accept clumping cat litter. I hope this helps...i really would stay away from anything that is not natural (same reason you do not eat beef right - not natural anymore) Oh - and the more expensive the food - the softer hsi coat will be. However, Iams has been bought by procter and gamble, and now has tons of fillers in it. My kitties get techni-cal.
Okay - that is my two cents. ok, no clumping cat litter. no iams. (p&g is evil incarnate, and not a good kind of evil). what should i use? i really need something that can deal with oder, as my apartment gets smelly rather quickly. and i do really prefer all natural. i thought that corn stuff would be so great, but it was so yicky smelling... i've also seen this stuff made out of wood. it looks like bunny food.... i feed him nutro natural choice food. i heard that was good, and also helped with stool odor. oh, what to do about my stinky kitty?

Well, get one of the covered cat boxes...they often have carbon filters on the tops. Maybe put some cedar shavings in as well?

Well, I have natural litter, made out of natural clay (small stones) - no chemicals in there and no dust. I remove urine and the rest at least 2x a day, clean it thoroughly 1x a week. My boxes have lids and are kingsized. I don't smell anything. It's called BioKat and is from Gimpet, probably only sold in Europe. Kiya

Well, you're only a human, Alrik - luxury is reserved for pets - very sorry, but if you grow fur and have four legs, large eyes and a moist nose, luxury will come to you Kiya

I'm sorry but if my 2 Pussies had to do thier business within the confides of my abode i would no longer have 2 Pussies , they would be out on there ar-se, walking the streets looking for some other mug to clean up after them. People who don't own cats can smell them in your house straight away, let alone if you have them pooing and weeing in a tray, nope i'm sorry to say it again ,but they'd be outa here

Spick, it's not safe to let cats out everywhere - when you're in the middle of a large city e.g. (Cologne in my case)
I know of no visitor who complained about a "smell" - not even when I had very ill kittens at my office for 4 weeks because I couldn't take off (happened 3x so far) - but I could clean it there right away and always had a window open. Same goes for my bathroom.
And the fond way you describe your cats, I just can't believe, you'd chuck them out Kiya

if my cat doesn't bug me at least 58 times a day to go in and out at it's desire..... then i might think it's getting sick or something!

One bad apple spoils the bunch, Jurak - everytime I had a new cat and this one thought up a new torture method, the others learned it very quickly, reducing the discipline of my troop. So, I guess this works with dogs, too. Kiya <suppressed cat slave>
Ah, well, only they are allowed to do this - right at the moment Kessy decided to play tango on my keyboard, ARGH!

I suppose your right there Kiya, but in my case it's just fine my garden is the size of of a footie pitch, all grass, several trees and a wonderful Privett hedge. Should people really have pets that need space and the great outdoors,if they live in a confined space or inner city?

Well, depends on - I had no choice at that time, my first cat was brought to me when I lived in Cologne and she needed help - and I've really had cats who refused to go outside, depending on where I lived. Right now I live in a little town and have a garden of my own, but Kessy wants her litter box instead of the garden. I can only tell you my XP, I've moved very often, my cats could go outside in some cases and not in other. I didn't have the impression it harmed them, because our bonds were very strong and I took care to keep them occupied so they didn't feel bored - meaning: they prefered the human bond to their area. But I understand your point:that's why my parents refused to have a dog when we came to Germany and had a flat at first - they had the same opinion as you Kiya

What is exactly wrong with iams?

Dry food regardless of trademark: good for teeth and metabolism (high fibre food) but if the cat doesn't drink enough = kidney damage on the long term if it is the only food
Wet food regardless of trademark: not so good for teeth (too soft: plaque and caries) if given as the only food, but has enough moisture. Some cats simply don't drink enough.
I do it like this: In the morning wet food, in the evening dry + a wee bit of wet food. Large bowl of fresh water next to it. Even the strays outside prefer the water bowl to other sources. (I have no spring/pond nearby though)
And I change trademarks use 4 different ones. Kiya
The only Iams I know is the food for cats with a kidney damage (medical food) - but Gyp, who was on this diet occasionally for 13 yrs didn't really like it (she was probably born with metabolism probs)- I had to mix it and coax here to eat that. No further info on this trademark.

Cat's don't have to drink milk, when they drink water when you give it to them, no problem at all.. but, when you see they don't drink enuogh, mix some milk in the water. Just Plain nilk is not good for them if they grow older, it gives them "stool" problems, have I experienced.

Well I have two cats (Ally & Krystal and I feed them for 7 years with IAMS dry cat food. They have two water stations one downstairs noncirculated water and the other upstair circulated water. The IAMS dry cat food came in origanl, lamb and rice, and sea food. I switched off between months.
