What does it protect from?

Does it protect from the freeze of the dragons in the wastelands? If not, what does? That's about the only thing that kills me here!

Spirit res. helps against elemental powers (fire, lightning, freeze, poison), freeze is one them. I was still frozen by the riders when my spir. res. was at 100, but only for a very short time.
