i want to get into dr elraths house, is there a way to do it without spending points on lockpick skill?

second and sort of related question..
is there a maximum level that once achieved you cannot pass?
or a level where it becomes unrealistic to level higher due to xp needed and eneimies available to kill?

i am concerned about spending my spec points unwisely and missing out on skills that i might want later

pls try to answer without plot spoilers if possible, thank you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Search around outside the doctor's house....
Lockpick is handy; at least keep any items you find with a bonus to this skill. Several quests require Lockpick, though no essential ones.

Most people complete the game around a character level in the mid forties to low fifties. Using Resurrect to re-kill monsters repeatedly would give you more experience, but since the experience required to get to a level is proportional to the cube of the level, and the number of experience points is related to the difference between classes (you get less if you are much higher in level), I would think it would be difficult to get much past the high fifties.

Mage spell books can be bought (Free skills, and spell books you can buy minor spoilers).
Warrior's tend to have spare skill points (I had 10 unused at the end of the game, spent 5 on a skill I never used and maxed out a few I didn't need when I got to the final area). Keep a few skill points in reserve.

One good way of maximizing experiencepoints is to by dots in wisdom (survivalskill) as early as possible. After lvl. 30 you will then gain a 10% bonus on all exp.

Maxing Wisdom will result in an extra level, possibly two; Wisdom - is it worth the skill points?

Another way to improve the experience you earn is to do more killing early in the game (you get less experience for monsters at a lower level that you) and leave many of the quests until later (you get more experience at higher levels).
There are two object in the game that can raise you up a level, so if you leave these until late in the game just after you get to a level, you will maximize the experience bonus you get to reach the next level.

I red it (the 'Wisdom...'-link) and wept.
I have restarted for less... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
