Has anybody out there who has played this game had the same problem as me and managed to fix it?
The game keeps crashing during the cinematics , of which there are plenty.
I have updated everything i can , and close all runnning programmes.
I believe DATD is also struggling with much the same problem except his cinematics don't appear all he gets is sound!
Any suggestions will be greatly apprieciated

Hmmm! Have you checked for a patch? (Sorry, had to ask)

Have you installed the latest drivers for you video card?
(Turned off anti-aliasing if its on. Quincunx especially can cause problems. If you dont know what this is, its probably not turned on)

Have you checked the Arx Fatalis forums?

Im sure you've tried all those but they are what I would do. Good luck!

Could also be DirectX. That's caused problems with movies before.

To be honest, the problem could be with directx9.0b.

Anti-aliasing is a method of getting rid of the "jaggy" edges in 3d games. You know how when a line is drawn it looks kind of jagged? Anti-aliasing smooths it off at the cost of performance. Your problem wont be quincunx though, as that is only a feature on Nvidia based cards. I dont know if the G400 supports anti aliasing or not .

I never had probs with the movies in Arx. How many are there??

Edit: I should have read my own post. It was unintelligable. Fixed it.

Anti-aliasing is a component of 3D graphics. It's where they smother the edges of pixels so that lines don't look jagged. It shouldn't affect movies (unless they're rendered realtime).

Since i've updated DX everything on my monitor seems a fair bit darker than it used to be,i can hardly make out some of the sig's on the forum, how can i put this right.??
P.S. my brightness and contrast are already up to full on my monitor manual controls, always have been.

Does your video card have a software gamma/brightness control, that may have been reset? Right click on an open area of the desktop, select Properties, then the Settings tab and the Advanced button, and poke around. DirectX itself doesn't have a screen brightness control, that I know of.

If your brightness and contrast are both maxed, it is unlikely that the monitor is properly calibrated.
'Brightness' sets the black point (how dark black is), which can be done exactly. 'Contrast' adjusts the overall luminosity of the screen (how bright white is), which should not effect the black point. A site I bookmarked is no longer there, but I found it cached at Google (minus the pictures, though);
Accurate Image Manipulation for Desktop Publishing

Is your monitor still under warranty? If you set the black point properly, but can not increase the Contrast enough to display white as white, you should consider getting it repaired. Check it on a different computer / video card, if possible.

"can you easily see Handefoods sig??"

No, though I'm pretty sure that was the intended effect. The runes are in outline on an otherwise transparent gif, so the lettering and background are the same colour, with a slightly darker outline/shadow for the characters. Get closer to the monitor, or save the gif and open it in a graphics viewer, for a better view.

I had the many problems with Arx, but I read somewhere in the german forum. that the newest nvidia drivers are not stable with the game. Perhaps you should try older video drivers 41. It solved my problems immediately.
