Ok, then you're playing 1.29 - please, backup your saves in a different folder, just to be on the safe side.

Make sure you do a clean install.
Delete the game
defragment
reboot
install CD-ROM (1.029) and then patch 1.34
If you install the 1.34 patch: Shut off all running background programs (Antivir, internet, icq, firewall etc.)and if you're using WinXP or Win 2000, be sure to have admin rights - good luck <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />
Then load one save into this game and play a bit, save. Take off that damn item. If you spend one skill point into magic barrier, these items are safe afterwards.
