But a lot of ppl seem to want a change.
Personally I have no problem with the bulbs. But I like the new idea too. It looks more or less like that on other sites too. Maybe the colours aren't so apealing the way it's shown now... but those can still be changed.

i think the lightbulbs remind me,
of a fat lady bent over,

I think the orange square reminds me of......Nothing! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleepey.gif" alt="" /> specially not a new notice, not like an open scroll or a letter and pen , or what about glowing easter eggs instead of light bulbs then!!

That is what a legend is for, and don’t forget the other two icons that are not lamps but a simple plus “+” because opening a category changes it into a minus “-“.

The new icons are only 13 x 13 pixels for size consistency and the colours are chosen also to be consistent.
A flashing GIF is more obvious for sure, but it could be eye-straining as well.

In many cases, simple is best, and the issue I raised was concerning “a plead” for increasing identification by other than white/ yellow discrimination. Changing shape would do it, and using high contrasting colours would also do it. Remember that the objective is to express “existing/ present” versus “not existing/ absent”.

A square black frame filled with any colour should qualify for existing new messages, when this colour give way to the background it qualifies for no new messages.

That looks just a bit to yuckie. You can have colours that clash without them having to look icky. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
And a bit to "formal" for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />.

Torches. They're pretty crappy, but they're a start.

i agree that the lightbulbs in time get "fuzzy" if i i"m a while after my computer.
but, it's no big isue.

BUT sinse whe discussing options, i do like a change also.

the forum itself is made very "simple" in design wich I like.
the sugestion @DAD made is a nice one in my eyes -> Simple.

But what if we see it a littel bigger. And we could have a full [/b]skinnable[/b] forum?
then, every fan can get his/hers taste. the one very simple in desighn, the other with all the flashing lightbulbs in the world <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I guess not only the bulbs get "fuzzy", also the avators.
