Staring at a computer/tv screen ruins your eyes. That is true. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />
But playing games does inprove your reflexes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My parents always commented on me using a puter for a lot of things. Homework, learning about puters, gaming,...
My mom doesn't know the first thing about puters. Or anything electrical.
I remember the times she decided my keyboard was dirty and cleaned them with water. -I bought a few keyboards in my time...

My dad... I'm sorry to say he's the typical mule kinda person. He's the typical person who would come in and say "hey, your keyboard is purple". And believe me, you better agree that your keyboard is purple or he would be going on about it for hours and end up telling you how stupid you are for days.

He also has a puter now. Well, for about a year now. Latest of latest. Windows XP prof. edition on it, flat MultiSync LCD monitor, ... and so on.
I constantly get calls "Hey, my pc isn't working anymore".
He messes up constantly. Only yesterday it was the same again. "My computer has broken down, come fix it."
When I got there it was clear that there was nothing wrong with the puter, but I got the message "no video signal" on the screen before it shut itself down again. As the puter is also connected to the tv and video/DVD player I guess he had been messing with those settings.
When I carefully asked what he had done lately I got the answer that he had done nothing. That it always had been a crappy screen, that the ppl at the shop are [nocando's], ...
(he's been to dozen's of shops by now, and I think they're always happy to see him go). I got one of my monitors overthere and got things running in a sec. so to speak.
He probably had messed with a lot of things. I even saw a link to the windows register on the desktop. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
And he has about a dozen of picts. in the taskbar. Gods only know what they are all about.
He suddenly went on about the virusses lately. I carefully told him that I told him a couple dozens times that if he wanted to go online he should get a decent firewall and keep antivirus updated (I installed Norton on his puter).
To be sure I ran a virus check.
I got the answer that it was none of my business. And that now that things are working again I should keep my opion to myself. That ppl at putershops are all criminals and that my job is to show up when he needs help and that's all.

So IMHO you guys should consider yourself lucky.

Nope thats not true. All faults to your eyes where you have to wear glasses are pure genetic faults.

It is true that staring at a computer screen can make your eyes feel tyred. But thats over when you take a break. Theire is no permanent damage because a screen can't damage your retina.

Well at least thats wat my ophthalmologist says.

Seth, yes it is sad to hear this about your dad. But, mine acts in the same way as yours.
I hear quite ofter. Come on, my PC is a peace of **** and it is broken again. Come and fix it.

And he still keeps opening spam mails regardless of my 1001 lections on danger of spam etc etc.

But dad is dad, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> we will always be there and help. Yep, patience and loyalty is a key, but thats fine with us, right? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Morbo, hmm.
PC screen's radiation can actually increase your inner eye pressure. Thats not good.
There are 3 rules to keep in mind, I am sure you all know them.

1 buy yourself LCD <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> no any radiation at all. but I am not that rich and LCDs are not fast enough for gaming.
2 keep distance. Medics say at least not closer than your arm length.
3 take 15 min. breaks every 45 min.

Yes, and gaming increases reflexes and attention to details.

old wives tales

Look at question 2 & 3. Altough you can suffer from eye fatigue theire is no pemanent damage to your eyes. But I don't want to start a discussion on eye disorders. So I sugguest we use Juraks eye that rolling here somewhere and place it really close to the TV and see whats happens. [Linked Image][Linked Image][Linked Image]

Sitting too long in front of the TV only makes you owerweight (Now that I can agree on) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
