I am continuing my update list on features I think would possibly benefit Riftrunner. Some of the suggestions are merley cosmetic and small, but should not be overlooked <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

1: Game Autosave

2: A save system that let's you overwrite a save game file with the same name *and asks if you want to overwrite that file* and does not make an additional save with the same name. *Another game fell plague to this*.

3: EAX3 abilities

4: A map included in the game box, if not just for decoration and collecting. I used to look forward to these with Ultima Online.

5: Resolutions up to 1024x768 at least.

6: A journal that can be written in, or a minimap that can be recorded onto.

7: Included from my earlier post, musicians to appear in the taverns.

8: If there are ingame cutscenes, the ability to view the ones you have seen at your convenience.

9: Already been confirmed the Divine Divinity composer will be back *A must <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />*.

10: The ability to see the different types of armor you wear *most likely will be included*

11: Rideable creatures ie: Horses

12: Ability to live in your own house and have the townsfolk recognize that it IS your house.

13: Different swing attack methods, then simply just click and swing.

14: True open ended quests. The ability to NOT ALLOW someone to reload a saved game just because they didn't like their quest choice. I feel once someone has BEATEN the game then let them do the choosings that they wish. It adds to the adventure and fear along the way.

15: Ability to play your own instruments, if not just for fun.

I don't want to start a discussion, but your idea is great.

What is that?? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Hi JK,
If you know what is ray-tracing for light in rendering 3D images then that is exactly what EAX is for sound.
We may call it also sound path tracing AKA SPT. Similarly as light may be absorbed and reflected on surfaces differently so does sound but with some twist in the rules. With light it is colour and reflectivity, while with sound it is surface roughness and toughness that dictates how much sound is absorbed and what shape of waves is reflected off surfaces.

Kind regards.

1: Game Autosave
[color:"red"]There's autosave for DD somewhere on those forums.

2: A save system that let's you overwrite a save game file with the same name *and asks if you want to overwrite that file* and does not make an additional save with the same name. *Another game fell plague to this*.
[color:"red"] Doest DD allow it?
3: EAX3 abilities
[color:"red"] not everyone has EAX3 sound cards

4: A map included in the game box, if not just for decoration and collecting. I used to look forward to these with Ultima Online.
[color:"red"] there was a NWN map in the box, you like it? I would've been surprised if you did.

5: Resolutions up to 1024x768 at least.
[color:"red"] Agree although I doubt I could play in it.

6: A journal that can be written in, or a minimap that can be recorded onto.
[color:"red"]Better journal: I remember I was excited about the one in BG2.

7: Included from my earlier post, musicians to appear in the taverns.
[color:"red"] Good idea.

8: If there are ingame cutscenes, the ability to view the ones you have seen at your convenience.
[color:"red"] Umm.... I never used that in BG. Why?

9: Already been confirmed the Divine Divinity composer will be back *A must <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />*.

10: The ability to see the different types of armor you wear *most likely will be included*
[color:"red"] Cross-fingers

11: Rideable creatures ie: Horses
[color:"red"] This question was ansered twice with a 'no'.

12: Ability to live in your own house and have the townsfolk recognize that it IS your house.
[color:"red"] Ah, that's fine: what about letters sometimes delievered to your house? At random, it would be cool and would be easy to add! It would definitly add immersion.

13: Different swing attack methods, then simply just click and swing.
[color:"red"] It's a point & click game. Name me at least ONE game with it: BG? NWN? Lionheart?

14: True open ended quests. The ability to NOT ALLOW someone to reload a saved game just because they didn't like their quest choice. I feel once someone has BEATEN the game then let them do the choosings that they wish. It adds to the adventure and fear along the way.
[color:"red"] How would they prevent that? And WHY? I do not have enough time to replay the whole game just to see what would someone say if I chop his foot off instead of accepting a quest???

15: Ability to play your own instruments, if not just for fun.
[color:"red"] Go buy a guitar.

I find half your answers to be of the "smartarsed" type. And I already compose music IRL thank you, per the last question. Regarding EAX3 etc i said the ABILITY, i don't care if you or others don't have that sound card but a bunch of us do, which is why I said A.B.I.L.I.T.Y . from one smarta$$ to another

1: Game Auto save

a feature then can be disabled also then. Auto save in a game were you can make easily a mistake is not advisory.
or you had a special auto save slot besides the normal ones..
But. I don't see the real use in it. i save alot manually.
I don't like the idea the game decides when I have to save.

3: EAX3 abilities
if a game have advanced sound technologies. And it's implemented THE WRIGHT WAY, i agree!
i have a very nice surround system, and I have seen (heard) a game in action with the advanced eax settings.(soldiers of fortune2)

4: A map included in the game box.
i didn't fancy maps in game boxes. i had maps earlier too , but never looked at it.
Some cover art, hand sketches etc.. From marian or one of his colleagues, would be appreciated ofcours <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

5: Resolutions up to 1024x768 at least.
i can not say how the game looks then.
the size of the objects, details etc. But you can always choose a lower resolution then
EDIT: <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> can be zoomed in and out. i forgot. but how is this possible without changing the resolution?

6: A journal that can be written in, or a minimap that can be recorded onto.

that's always nice. it gae you even more "freedom" in game play.
but i don't understand what you mean with a recorded minimap?

7: Included from my earlier post, musicians to appear in the taverns.
that would be nice,
you can even make a quest of them

8: If there are ingame cut scenes, the ability to view the ones you have seen at your convenience.
Like @DATD said, why? I don't see the use in it.
too Re-view your NPC discussion is a better idea

10: The ability to see the different types of armour you wear *most likely will be included

as i saw on the screenshots the best example is the "bone armour" which you will see your bones on your avatar instead of a non transparent armour.
So probably a big yes

11: Rideable creatures ie: Horses
also a sugestion made by me, but it was more for a <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />2.
but a very good idea ofcours.

-> @DATD, were did you find these 2 "no's"? i missed it somewhere then <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" />

12: Ability to live in your own house and have the townsfolk recognize that it IS your house.
yes very nice idea, the letter receiving from DATD also.
but were does it FIT in the story line. the way i see it there is no place for your own house because you are soul forced with a demon, you are in another dimension and chased by enemies...I don't want to receive a letter with separate letters cut from newspaper in my mailbox <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
More div2 i think

13: Different swing attack methods, then simply just click and swing.
a very good idea. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

14: True open ended quests. The ability to NOT ALLOW someone to reload a saved game just because they didn't like their quest choice. I feel once someone has BEATEN the game then let them do the choosing that they wish. It adds to the adventure and fear along the way.

now, we are seeing both sides of the knife. the one hardcore RPG'er wants to play the game and deal with the decisions he /she made. Without saving, and feel the consequences.
the other ones want to try everything out or save/load there way trough the game.
i think the system like it is , is a good one, because you choose if you want to reload again or carry on. i don't want to be forced this into by a save limit.

15: Ability to play your own instruments, if not just for fun.
what about this one -> : the ability to destroy music instruments? i always would like to smash a piano with my war hammer, or bash a nice violin against the wall <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Or even just a place for notes in the back of the game manual would be good. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

I like all of those ideas, except for the map in the box. Perhaps in the Collectors Edition you could. Part of the fun of Divine Divinity (at least for me) was exploring and discovering what lies in the world.

support for EAX(doesn't have to be EAX3) will be great. i really hope that Larian will consider this 2 make the game more immersive. sound cues, ambience, with kirill's music looming behind u, ...... that'll make the game epic.

btw, most soundcards or soundchips support EAX so please please please let us have this feature.

it's environmental audio enhancement. it's not just a simple surround sound implementation. it's precise sound placement that has made gaming more immersive(what's creeping behind u?), more enjoyable(booming soundtrack behind u), helpful sound cue(footsteps on your left, someone's coming!), more believable(FPS games such as medal of honour).

i'm sure u have watched movies from tv's which the sound from the tv itself is so different from home theatre system. it's a crude example but that's the kind of difference between straight stereo widening @ pseudo-surround & EAX(or dolby digital or DTS for movies).

not only that, EAX makes the sound more realistic such as when u walk on sandy surface or tiled floor or in a cave where sound echoes, u can tell the difference. & also muddled sound like when u hear conversations from the other side of a thin wall. occlusion, they call it. Try out this link . hope it helps in explanation. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

So it's realtime surround-sound creation. Sounds fun, but how would that help RiftRunner? It's an overhead game? All sounds should come from the screen because the camera is in the air.

not exactly overhead, handefood. isometric, in fact it's more horizontal than say, lionheart. so EAX can make sense. after all, we do have 'listen' attribute in DD so if that attribute does mean anything & is retained in RRR, so EAX can be implemented to have more realistic ambient sound(a tree on your left will have the sound of bird chirping on your left speaker) & also sound cue(faint sound of metal clanking in the back speakers suggest there is battle ensued not far behind u). better sound separation which leads to precise sound placement will be great though i have yet 2 think of posibilities on how this can be fully realised.
