hollywood has run out of original ideas, they have been reduced to remakes and sequels of previously successful films....
Not really really true - The problem is that the big studios only care about money, they want blockbusters and they're never very open to new or original ideas. They have formulas for each type of blockbuster, and they prefer to stick to those. Even if an original script makes it, odds are high the final product will be just another dull movie as a result of all the cuts that have been made, often even in post production, by the studios. Original scripts are simply rare because they're a risk that studios aren't eager to take.
On a sidenote, it's become the same in the game industry as well, hasn't it?
