Hi Sesshomaru,

Welcome to the forum! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

You can try running Scandisk on the drive you installed Divine Divinity and see if there are any errors.

Also run the Divinity setup and switch to another mode and/or try lowering the resolution.

Thanks.

I would try a clean install. Un-install, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game, start the game and see if you get an error, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, install the patch, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, start the game and create a new character. This procedure is a bit over-cautious, but the best way to avoid install problems.

If that doesn't work; Troubleshooting and Manual Install Procedure.

What exactly is the read error? From the CD or hard drive? Do you have a different optical drive you can try the play CD in? There is a file verification procedure described in the manual install post.

Sesshomaru, please look if you can find a file names "error.txt"
in ../Divine Divinity/Run. If so, what is the contents?
Is the error message you get a message from <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> or an Windows errormessage?

I also had this problem. The problem was with the cd-rom. I then decided to make a virtual cd of the disk and it worked. No more read errors and the game ran beautifully.

Hi Sesshomaru,

I think you can access your Divinity files if you left click My Computer twice. Next, double left click on the drive that you installed Divinity in. For me it's the C drive. It's located within the folder titled, Program Files. Once you've opened up the Program Files Folder, the Divinity folder should be in there. Open it up and see if there's an error.txt file. If there is an error.txt file, what does it say?

Thanks.

Hi,

Try to see how the game runs when you uninstall DirectX 9 and install DirectX 8.

Thanks.

Yeah that is the best idea. I did the same thing and I also have XP and Directx 9a. The game runs perfect with Dierectx 8.

Also try to set the game in only «software» in the begining. With this setting I run the game and my anti-virus at the same time... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Yeah I know I shouldn´t do that.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

i really wish Directx would come up with a removal program...
it's almost impossible to revert to a previous version of Dx
without, re-doing the whole computer! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> True? or Not? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

You should just be able to copy the items.000 file from the game disk '<CD-ROM>:\disc3\static' folder into the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\static' folder, then right click on the file in Explorer, select Properties and clear the read-only attribute.

The 5 *.bik files are not needed, and are not copied to the hard drive by the installer.

Strange... were you trying to move or copy? You can only copy off a CD, but it should not give that error if you try moving.

I emailed you the objects.000 file.

Well I did something else. I went to control panel, I completelly removed directx and then reinstalled a previous version.

Did I messed up? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" />

Did you install Divinity and patch from an account with administrative privileges? Are you playing on a restricted account that might not have read/write access?
Did you try running a ScanDisk? Right click on the drive in Explorer, select properties, then in the Tools tab there should be a 'check now' button in the 'Error-checking status' section.
Did you try the file verification method described in the post Troubleshooting and Manual Install Procedure?
