hey joliekiller, the max u can have for marine frigates are 4. & i cannot capture the enemy's invasion frigate either.
i still cannot find a way to capture their carrier(i've tried destroying all subsystems & engines & cutting down the carrier's HP to 1/4) though capturing frigates is possible. maybe i can try capturing shipyard.
egin, i've yet 2 attempt that level though i fooled around with it prior to shutting down for bedtime. it seems that they have multiple fronts & to avoid facing them on many sides, the first try is to kill off the gates via upgraded bombers. somehow the key to success is your previous mission. i exhausted all resources in the previous map & minimise my casualties as well so my fleet is quite ready for this mission.
will let u know more when i get 2 kick vaygr butt.

I am right in front of that station now, last thing to do in this mission is to order my fleet to destroy it, no capture possible.
(I played Age of Mythology for some time, so that's why I didn't go much further).
I can give you some tips on this mission if you want.

Here is what I did.
Research and make some torpedo frigates. Combine them with pulsars and some gunners. Go out and destroy first gate and hyperspase inhibitors. (I did the most left first). Create some minelayers and lay lots of mines a bit further in front of mothership (you already know where are they coming from).
Simultaneously take small grp of 2 or so torp frigates, couple of wings of pulsars and order them to go straight across the left edge of map. There is salvageable asteroid field on their territory. If you are careful then you will kill all resource collectors and those where collectors unload. Forgot their names, but they have guns and very good armour, This is the reason not to sent bombers. Why careful, there are some carriers and I think even destroyer nearby.
After you withstand their attack you can build some support and take out second gate with inhibitors. The game after that is a peace of cake
No need to capture all three gates. I captured just one and destroyed the others.
And one thing I just learned is that you can't capture nether carrier nor shipyard. It seems 4 marines is max. They start capture procedure and cancel it near end.

thanks, egin. i only manage to capture one heavy missile frigate fro the previous mission. yet 2 have torpedo frigates but i'll be building those soon.
heck 2 tell u the truth, i rely a lot on bombers as destroyer, carrier, battlecruiser, mothership killers. i usually have about 8-10 bombers on the flank to attack the big ships while others act as main bait.

Yes, Janggut, you don't have torpedo frigates at the beginning of this mission, have to research them first.
My opinion that bombers were useless, your saviour is torp. as strong anti frigate and corvette craft. They fire torpedoes with good rate and more important is at long range. Sure you have to support them with some anti fighters, bring 2 repair corvettes (salvage corv), as your torps get hurt from enemy torps.

hello egin!
i've finished the 4th mission & it's not as hard as i thought it was.
ok, so it was hard but it's manageable enough so ..... .
anyway, i got through by having my whole fleet staying together so nobody can harass me & get away with it.
i did research & built torpedo frigates & somehow managed to capture 2 or 3 of vaygr's heavy missile frigates. not to forget i got 2 of their assault frigrates too! it isn't without sacrifice as i lost 2-3 marine frigates in obtaining them but the payoff's worthwhile. heck, i even got me a vaygr destroyer for early christmas!
bombers remain to be my favourite flankers. the space version of cavalry which happens to be siege weapon killers. i have about 8-10 of bomber squadrons. interceptors suck as they tend to be ripped apart before any fight commences. so i rely on upgraded corvettes to do the job.
as for frigates, i tend to build flak frigates first then torpedo frigates. when i have spare RU's, i build marine frigates.
i am thankful of the design of the mission that it hides the fact(that is until u've advanced far enough) that they are 5 carriers, 1 destroyer, & one mothership with a big mutha space station. all out to get u.
now another headache among the dust clouds ....

EGIN!! DAD!! where the heck are u guys?!
mission 5: looking for the oracle started out in the massive dustcloud which conceals all of your fleet, which is good. consider harvesting your first priority. mine the nearest as well as the one close to the edge of the clouds. send only resource collectors & mobile refineries. don't let any of the military units move but feel free to manufacture more.
once u strip the map of its resources, move your whole fleet & initiate full frontal attack. the enemy is close to the oracle so just move & u'll see them.
vaygr mutha-ship, carrier(s), shipyard, frigates(heavy & assault), & the usual fighters.
new stuff: ion cannon frigates
note: before the final act of killing the last enemy, make sure u are fully prepared for the next level which difficulty increases exponentially. DAD who likes his game sadistically hard will have himself spanked.
hiigaran pilot: will u look at that mutha... another hiigaran pilot: watch your mouth! hiigaran pilot: hey i'm only talking about dirty frank.

Hi Janggut.
I think I am right at the beginning of that mission.
Was busy with my work these days. Had no time for internet.
Played Max Payne 2, Age of Mythology and MOH Spearhead.
Now, it's time for some more HW2 and Rainbow Six

Raven Shield - it is pretty much the same as previous Rainbows, it has better graphics, better animations and sometimes very stupid AI. But, if you loved Rainbow series you will like Raven Shield, I am sure. Thanks to it's planning abilities and excellent atmosphere (you have two squads sneaking in some mansion at night, it is quiet and dark and suddenly a firefight begins, it ennds after 10-15 seconds leaving dead bodies and broken glass on the floor. This really makes some good tension).
As for my flat. I have found one. Yay. It is bigger, better, it has even better view from the window (I can see nice lake). And it is more expensive, so now I am busy taking a loan from a bank. Maybe the procedure is simple in other countries, but here you have to submit tons of papers, this sucks. Anyway, I hope to sign the contract for this flat at 18th of November. Wish me luck, I will definitely need it.

this is a tough, i mean tougher mission than the previous. not against corvettes, frigates nor capital ships but tinsy winsy movers, which are actually utility ships. now how hard is that?
the little varmints come in swarms & u have to defend the mutha-ship from extinction. they're very very strong & almost immune to all kinds of firepower. later on, the in-game voice will tell u that the little pests are vulnerable to anti-corvette weaponry. .... yeah right. almost all my pulsar corvettes & all my interceptors + gunships are annihilated. every once in a while(more like every minute), a frigate will be destroyed.
so what to do in a helm's deep situation? expect reinforcements? forget it.
when u begin in this mission, it's important to put your marine frigates(if u have any) at the back of your fleet, better if it's at the edge of the map. they're useless in this mission. same thing can be said of bombers so keep them in the launch bay.
send your carrier towards the middle of the map & at the same time build the turrets (from the carrier). keep churning out replacements when u lose a ship or two. flak & torpedo frigates make good defense so manufacture them big time. u don't have to have a considerable force with your carrier as it's not & never the main target of the movers. just have enough, say 2 flaks, 3 torps, & the turrets. have 1-2 resource collectors with the carrier. u'll need them later on....
the big mutha-ship will make a short hyperspace jump to the middle of the map so have the defending force ready to rush there. oh yes, before i forget, the big mutha's movement cannot be controlled but u can still manufacture units from it. supposedly controlled by the oracle(but u know it's just scripted).
anyway, protect the big mutha from total annihilation so do your darnest. your carrier should arrive at the middle of the map & then the map will show u a disabled mover which u can retrieve using your resource collectors. instead of ordering your resource collectors to go there, have your carrier & its forces move there. this will ensure the safety of your collectors as well as the delivery of the disabled mover.
once u got the little dude, u will be able to research the weakness & in time u'll beat the little buggers.
here i didn't mention harvesting as this is what u should do in every mission regardless of the situation. by the way, when u build the turrets from the carrier while it's moving, the turrets will move together with it & also able to fire. that is a good thing.
new ship: defense frigate (useless in this mission)

Derelicts
this mission's easier, & that's relative & opinionated! u're required to clear the radioactive debris so that the mutha-ship can hyperspace out of this map. u get to build movers this time to help as it's your only unit that can survive the radiation & destroy the debris.
tips: if u want the game to last long enough for u to harvest every little resource in the map, don't destroy the last piece of debris. u have total of 7 to destroy. save the one farthest from the big core for last. don't let any unit other than movers to get close to the radiation.
this time, u get to have both movers & vaygrs as your opponents. woohoo! not.
after hyperspace jump, rush to the nearest harvesting spot, big mutha-ship & all. all except your carrier & some frigates (2 flaks, 3 torps, maybe 1-2 ions) which should have opposite trajectory to your big-mutha's. why? there's another resource patch there & your carrier (which can produce frigates) have no prob beefing up its force along the slow journey. not much need for turrets in this mission but that's up to u. have some more resource collectors to harvest the patch at the carrier's destination.
a time-based script will trigger & tell u a vaygr probe is entering your space & u should kill it to prevent the enemy from detecting u. a squadron of scout/interceptor can do the simple job. anyway, just to let u know that it's futile & the enemy (which u know is the computer AI) already knows u are there, so ..... . oh well.
depending on your orientation on the game map, vaygr's shipyard is situated on left/right of u. & it should be not too far from your carrier. this is the part where your carrier makes its crucial move. move it together with its force towards the shipyard & blow it up. beware that vaygr produces destroyers. this can work to your advantage if u do have your marine frigates with the carrier. but make sure it's at the back of your attacking force as it's vaygr fav target. it'll be nicer if u have defense frigate(s) as well as it can protect the marine frigate from most enemy fire.
the big mutha will be constantly harassed by fighters & corvettes as well as ocassional heavy missile frigates(kill them with bombers). don't worry too much, so long as your defending force holds up & u keep replacing the losses.
on the same side of the map as vaygr shipyard is a carrier which manufactures fighters & corvettes. u know what 2 do with it. deal with it first before going for the shipyard.
when u start the mission, u should be able to build destroyers & max number is 5, which is a lot. have 3 to defend the big mutha & 2 for the carrier attacking force.
nearest to the big core(u'll know when u see it) is another vaygr carrier. dang, how come the vaygr can withstand the radiation? shielded, yeah right. this carrier should be your last target.
it's very straight forward; search & destroy. enemy AI is a tad dismal compared to previous maps, which is good as i'm not a sadistic starcraft gamer who likes whipping himself.
new ship: destroyer, mover(sucks for everything else) new tech: upgrades for flak frigate, destroyer, firetower support for big mutha

A sneak preview of Mission 8 Mission 8 - Dreadnaught Berth Among the derelicts lies a powerful Progenitor ship that holds the key to Balcora and Sajuuk.
Objective: Confirm location of Dreadnaught. Before confirming the dreadnaught’s location, reinforce your fleet as necessary. Primarily you need pulsar gunships and torpedo frigates to counter a new enemy and more ion cannon frigates to counter an even deadlier new enemy. You should also consider building a full fleet of five destroyers. Also, make a squad of 10 movers. Build a probe and send it to the area marked on the sensor map; it’s the possible location of the dreadnaught vessel. When the probe reaches the site, the dreadnaught is revealed. Something emerges from the derelict repeating the message, “The keeper is aware…the keeper understands…the keeper has seen the enemy.” Not comforting words.
Objective: Use movers to transport the dreadnaught. You must use at least six movers to transport the dreadnaught. However, the dreadnaught is protected by drones launched from the keeper. These drones aren’t simple enemies; they’re extremely durable and can wipe out your strike craft very quickly. The drones are essentially corvettes so counter them with anti-corvette units, specifically pulsar gunships and torpedo frigates. Research upgrades for these units for further assistance. Move up your destroyers and ion cannon frigates near the dreadnaught. Send your movers to dock with the dreadnaught and begin hauling the huge vessel toward the mothership. The keeper will appear periodically and unleash its powerful cannon weaponry against anything in its path. It has the ability to crush a destroyer fast. When the keeper appears, concentrate all firepower on it. The keeper disappears after sustaining a certain amount of damage; so the faster you can inflict damage to the keeper, the better. Escort the dreadnaught back to the mothership. Replace any destroyed pulsar gunships or torpedo frigates and move them quickly back into battle. You should also replace any lost destroyers (also, try to keep them repaired with resource collectors after the keeper leaves).
Movers are required to transport the dreadnaught back to the mothership.
Objective: Protect the fleet. As stated, concentrate all firepower on the keeper when it appears. Use ion beam platforms for additional firepower; just move them up near your fleet to help keep the keeper occupied. Repair any damaged ships after it exits. Reinforce your units when you lose any craft. You’ll be told that you can’t defeat the keeper with conventional weaponry. Thankfully, someone found a weakness. There are Progenitor power modules in the area. The modules can be activated and can cause the keeper to overload. New locations appear on the sensor map; send probes to all locations.
Objective: Send probes to scan for trigger devices. Create six probes and send one to each of the marked locations on the sensor map. Also, build a full squad of movers if you don’t have one; you’ll need it shortly. You’ll be notified if the location contains the power modules or nothing. Meanwhile, continue to pound on the keeper if he arrives. Repair and dock vessels as necessary and keep your units as healthy as possible.
Objective: Use movers to collect Progenitor devices. Send your pulsar gunships ahead of your movers toward the location of the power modules. There are drones awaiting your arrival and your movers won’t be able to withstand their firepower. Use the gunships in the lead to distract the drones long enough for your movers to nab the modules. As you approach, micromanage each mover to one of the three power modules. This will ensure you grab a module as quickly as possible. And should a mover die on the way, another mover will follow it and take its place. Keep your pulsar gunships engaged with drones as the movers haul the devices to their destination.
The keeper’s drones will attempt to prevent your movers from retrieving the devices.
And as always during this mission, watch out for the keeper, who will appear near your mothership in the heart of your units. Concentrate all fire on him and keep your destroyers repaired! When the movers haul all three modules to their destination, the devices are installed and the keeper arrives in its center. As promised, the keeper is overloaded and self destructs as you escape and complete the mission successfully.

Dreadnaught: say hello to my little friend ...
the dreadnaught is a powerful arsenal, in fact the most powerful weapon u have in the game. u will witness this in the opening scene of this mission.
being so powerful, it fried a vaygr shipyard & burnt itself. being immobile & helpless, once again u have to take defensive measures.
have your carrier(capable of producing frigates), destroyer(s) & a bit of frigates to go the opposite direction of the dreadnaught. this is because nabaal will hyperspace in & by itself it's a slow wading duck. vaygr welcoming commitee consists of 2-3 destroyers, a few frigates & a number of fighters.
have your bombers ready as vaygr use hyperspace gates to enter the area. u know what bombers can do to hyperspace gates. make sure u have at least 8-10 squadrons to make bombing runs effective.
the rest (big mutha & all) should prepare to defend the dreadnaught. it's wise to tuck away your marine & defense field frigates as they're yummy targets for vaygr. actually u can use this info to your advantage. i leave that to u to figure out.
as usual harvest all u can & spare 3-4 resource collectors for dreadnaught repairs.
once nabaal hypers into the map, have the dreadnaught meeting it halfway for docking. order nabaal to get close to big mutha for ease of defense.
keep a lookout for carriers & use your bombers to kill the lone ones. u should know by now there is a vaygr shipyard around so again, bombers can do much damage to it when unguarded or lightly guarded.
once every little vaygr pest in exterminated, u'll be on your way to the next mission.
note: pause button is your best friend in homeworld. use it always.
new ship:destroyer (i think)

Keepers have sequels
if u dread the vaygr forces, well dread them no longer as keepers make them look like amateurs. this time u get to meet 4 invulnerable keepers(capital ship killers). don't forget their spawn: drones(frigate killers).
in this mission, your dreadnaught is all but 100% operational. if u recall the previous mission where it fired its badass cannon & fried vaygr shipyard & itself, the dreadnaught isn't what it used to be.
henceforth bentus. the bentusi offers to repair the dreadnaught's badass cannon. accept their offer by docking the dreadnaught on the bentus. do this ASAP as keepers will appear very very soon & in numbers. your 'lucky' number in this mission is 4. yes, 4 keepers that are very much invulnerable to any weapon.
but don't give up. use all your forces & damage the keepers one by one. use your interceptors, corvettes & flak frigates to terminate thedrones while the rest get the keepers. bombers help a lot in damaging the keepers. once the health of the keepers drop to a quarter or so, it'll phase out. nope, u didn't kill it & it'll be back very soon. so the assault continues till the timer runs its full course (15 minutes, i think).
after holding back the keepers & defending the bentus & yourself, the dreadnaught is fully repaired. what follows is something inevitable.
note: again i do not mention about harvesting as this is what any homeworld gamer should do if there is any resource to collect. marine & defense field frigates again are useless in this mission.
