i'd say creative is great despite 'bad driver' issues as it works very well for me. i've no problem so far (so long as i know the specific programs & drivers i install for the creative soundcard) using it & in fact a dedicated soundcard is better than a built-in soundchip as soundcards are hardware-accelerated. built-in soundchip isn't. it will hog your CPU cycles & therefore diverting your processor to do a big chunk of its job other than the usual. hence slowdowns on system. u may not notice it if u never have a good soundcard to try & make comparisons.

if u have a friend who has a dedicated & good soundcard & willing to lend it to u for tests, u should try it out & see. creative has better audio response as well, unlike the built-in which sounds cheap.
