You can put notes on the local map by rightclicking (I think it was) on the respective spot on the map

yeah thanks for that, I was aware of that but have not been using it, my main concern was orientation in game play it self, does anyone know if one can purchase a compass at any stage, could be helpful.

And thanks for the help with the time (works like a treat) cheers, now off to find this widows place.

Cheers all

Numpty, If you right click anywhere on your screen your menus should come up. One of them is a map menu. As with all the menus, you can make them smaller, larger and even keep them 'pinned' to your screen. Also with the map menu, you can click on the word 'local' to give you a view of the area you're in now. If you click on the 'world' map, there is a map of all of Vardenfell. On the world map, only the cities you've been told about (by the NPCs) will be highlighted by a box. When you click to the world map, there will be an arrow pointing to the location you're at locally.

I'm not sure if this information answers your question. As I stated in an earlier post, North is always the top of your monitor, south, the bottom, east to the right and west to the left. This map is no different than one you'd be looking at were it on a table top. There are no compasses as you don't need one.

Another thing to keep in mind: when you click on the local map, only those areas you've traveled will be uncovered. The rest stays blackened until you explore it. To keep any menu pinned to your screen, simply click in the upper right hand corner of the menu (where the 'close or x' box would be) and it will stay there until you depress the 'x' or 'close' box, which will remove it.

That's all there is to know about directions and orientation within Morrowind.

Good luck!

P.S. I've started playing again (you're a bad influence!) and I still find new things.
