Haven't played as a warrior yet - managing to do quite well with hit & run tactics using magic and/or bow - so until some of the more experienced guys & gals can give some helpful tips, try a search for ARIC'S WARRIOR GUIDE (sorry, but I don't know how to put it in as a link, not one that works, anyway).
(and a big <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> to those who put together these guides - brilliant work & a terrific help!!!).
Also, as demonhunter says, try some other quests first & build up your level - have you spoken to Marcus in Ars Magicana yet? Also in the farmland areas you'll find some easier quests - just make sure you talk to everybody!
