If there's one thing I've ever heard any of my friends that have played Divinity bitch about, it's the range of randomness of the equipment in the game.

Hello! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> And the randomness... read the interviews, man. At least once per year... it was discussed in the first fiew.

The random generation has been addressed for RiftRunner. Things should be a lot more balanced.

more pre-determined stuff in the new game. hopefully it won't make the game item-centric like diablo series but more character-centric like fallout(& its SPECIAL system).
yeah yeah yeah, i know, i'm biased. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

I know this may sound stupid but i thought random equipment was a great idea, I kept me on my toes, it stop alot of people cheating *cough except a few lol*. It was different to lets say in Fall out where i would load up a game or start a new one and would know every item or armor is. At times in DD i admit i was upset not getting a same weapon that i had before but it was a challenge for me that kept me speading hours looking for another decent weapon.
P.s Sorry for any one reading this while shaking their head thinking "Oh my (Insert religion) this guy needs to get out more".

which is why we have a lot of 'keep-the-game-singleplayer-please' supporters here.

Fall out now that was fun, F2 was more fun imo, was too easy to cheat also with missions. Donno why people made cracks for the game. Any way i like the traits, packrat was my fav.
any way i hope that we get something simular to that in rr.

Stuff will still be random in RiftRunner, don't worry about that. It will just be more selectively random. Hopefully you won't be able to get an Axe of Thundering Doom from a level 6 Orc. P.s Sorry for any one reading this while shaking their head thinking "Oh my (Insert religion) this guy needs to get out more". Don't worry, I say that about myself all the time! [color:"#99aabb"]No, that's what I say about you. But you're me. [color:"#99aabb"]Ha! You think I'd be seen being you? You're insane! No [nocando]! Me being insane is the only reason you're here. [color:"#99aabb"]Oh, yeah. Stay in. Please don't lose your insanity. I'd like to still exist. Who's your daddy!

Hopefully they have a option for difficulty in getting random items in the game (could be bound with difficulty in monsters).

In Divine Divinity, they could set default levels for items that were preplaced (eg. Dragon Armour is always level 5 out of 5.). It was when items were generated by merchants or corpses that randomness became a problem. There was a chance that any random item could be more powerful than the Dragon Armour or the Nobleman's Sword/Dagger/Amulet. And if you sat there and reloaded enough, you could get it from the first orc in the game!
Another problem was that the stats for items like the Dragon Armour and Nobleman's Thing were too wildly random. The only time I used the reload cheat was on the Larian Armour. My first one had an armour of 210. My second had an armour of 410. The other stats weren't too different. I had found random drops of Chain Mail that were better than that first Larian Armour.
We want quest rewards to be worth it!

actually i find the randomness as a plus (although i do agree it should be more "intelligent") and i appreciate when there is NOT some ultimate armor/weapon which would take hunting/hoping for special drops/purchases completely out of the equation (EDIT: although they should be sufficiently powerful that a random drop of a more powerful armor/weapon would be quite rare - just not impossible)... ESPECIALLY SO when there's a difference in appearance between armors, even if it's simply a difference of shade, coloration or tinge of hue (on the appearance thing, diablo 2 was special because almost every armor looked slightly different from the next either because one was made "shinier", another is colored differently or another glimmers with a hint of a different color... the next generation of that idea would be "pattern shaders" (borrowing shader term from 3d games) where instead of simply applying a different tinge or base hue for a weapon/armor a different pattern could appear so an engraved or painted platemail could look as such... the same technology could also facilitate a glowing or flaming affect)...
