also take into account that (at least in america) it was only $30.00.. EXCELLENT deal for a large, wide open RPG in my opinion.. i can guarentee that Blizzards next diablo will be at least 60.00.. only to deal with cheaters and so on online:) and having it be a pure dungeon crawl:p

I fear most people do not understand the problems with making a game multiplayer.
Either you make it a MMPRPG like Everquest or <anything> Online. In this case you do not need a dedicated storyline like Divine Divinity has. But you need servers and fight a neverending struggle against cheaters.
Or you make it a bit multiplayer via LAN or whatever for some people to playing together. You need the same story as you need for a singleplayer game. You have to put a lot of programming for multiplayer into the game and I do not believe that so much more people buy the game, because of the fact that it is multiplayer.
And as long as characters are not server stored, there will be cheaters. And even then there are cheaters. See Diable 2. I remember Evil Islands, being a nice RPG IMHO with nice features (for example creating your weapons from plans and materials), but the multiplayer community died because of too much cheating.
So, why should game designer make a game multiplayer, if they want to make a game with a great story, primarily?

Yes, but this would be the only pro for MP. Because of the game´s style a coop adventure mode (and perhaps a funny little Deathmatch Arena) would be the only way to play DivDiv with more than one Hero. But even this change would cost much time and money and the game already had a long delay.
And what about a MMPORPG ?
Answer: The Larians didn´t have the workpower, time, money and popularity to earn money with that kind of game.
So IMHO it is not a tragedy that there´s no MP in Divinity. But for future Larian games I wish they realize how much fun people can have with a nice MP game.

One thing is great about MP game is taht you get to share things and socialist with pple all around the world and that is most fun of mp game. Get some real freinds . JK, Truelly that is the most that goes on in an online with strangers mp experience more talking than playing (which usually includes lieing and back stabbing.) And why (Along with my poor dialup) I haven't play online games, too much chat and not enough game. As long as the time/money into making it MP doesn't effect the SP quality/quantity I'm for the MP option but couldn't care less. I have diablo 2 to play with friends and wife when we want to bash something, and dungeonsiege, and for strategy Disciples 2. And all those three my wife can actually play get her into DD and.... well lets just say she isn't very computer literate but I'm teaching her. She's a lot better now than the first trip into D2.

I really don't want to judge women versus men in computer literacy I'd surely lose, as I do all arguments with women It is people like my sister I try to watch out for, the "I know a lot about computers.....oooppps I jsut formatted the hard drive."
Her lack of computer compitence is an age thing not gender, she is much older than me and never really needed to use a computer.

Otherwise, you're one more "Me too!" for the pile. Think about all the MP games out there. Now think about all the ones you played for any serious amount of time. Now think about all the ones you still play. Probably, the numbers of games that exist vs. the number you actually have time to play is very different. That said, a quest based game like DD could have some multiplayer aspects to it, but it would largely be competition based. Who can solve the quests first? Who gets to the treasure first? Who finds the other player's cache of goodies and runs off with it? Or, the always obnoxious "Haw haw, I killed U dead, you suX0rz!" play. Maybe the reason all games are about MP is because there's nothing else fun to do in them?
You will rue the day you opposed me! Begin your rueing! I'll just... sit over here... and watch.

Hmmmm, I take it back. Multiplayer really doesn't sound like that much fun after all. I mean it could be, but sounds like in the real world it's not unless you've gotten in on the ground floor and been playing forever and are not likely to get picked off on your first day by someone who is more powerful than you and bored.

*ignores hyp's sarcasm* Actually when I did play d2 (should I say try) online community 90% of the time some idiot would come in go hostile and force us to leave game or be hunted. I got sick of restarting every ten minutes and getting no where. password then? I'm sorry but I don't have that many friends that work the same hours as me AND like the game. My D2 and any other MP experience has fallen to local lan.

I apologize, but I wasn't being sarcastic (at least not on purpose), I was just making an observation based upon some of the posts here and some recent conversations I've had with some friends of mine. I did not mean to offend.

I thought you was sorry, It just sounded like you were saying I and other were helpless newbies that knew nothing and if we knew better we wouldn't get killed by people. Sorry I took it the wrong way.

Oh my goodness no! I didn't mean anything like that at all. Thank you for saying something. I'm sure if you took it that way other's would have too, and I don't want people thinking I'm a jerk.
I've never played a MP game. It just sounds like so much fun. That is until I talk to people who have played or read threads like this one.
Please forgive me. You have to understand that the height of my intellectual stimulation outside of the occasional forum online is Spongebob Squarpants. At least until my kids get a bit older.

I usually don't read into posts that much but for some odd reason I did this time, maybe because it has been a really long hard work week(errrmmm.... except for right now of course *Looks nervously around to see if co-workers are near* ) It's been somewhat slower today thankfully. My wife hates that shows song, I tease her with it all the time

If multiplayer is LAN only and doesn't support internetplay cheating would be reduced a lot.

Multiplayer would be good, but i suggest this for divine divinity two. Why ? IMO the makers of divine divinity have a great potential to fill in the marketgap that is presently existing :
To create a game where your character gets better and more skilled. These sort of games are hugely popular. I belief the makers have to work on bringing better skills to the game, making the char godly-like as it progresses (diablo2) with greater adversaries as the gamestory continues.
Improvement and greater addition of set items, very rare items (diablo2).
And the greatest Blast would be bringing this all online. profits ?? I am sure the game would be so addictive, bringing out people from all over the world to buy it, the price can be even higher, it wouldn't matter.
Because really people who are addicted to diablo2 ONLINE stopped playing for only one reason: they got bored and as i see it there is NO replacement in this genre of game...
keep up the good work LArian ! Me is belgian too
