Sacred looks good, too. Not so really "beautifully" , but rather weird. I liked very much the character "Shakti" in it, so I chose her as a character for an unfinished story (not in the Sacrifice Universe). Unfortunately the disc got lost, must be somewhere here ...

Homeworld looks incredible, too. It's just breathtaking zooming directly into battles, watching the warships move. .

Hmm hard question.
Back in 1993 it was Doom, which looked very beautiful at that time. In 1996 it was Quake and Duke3D. Later Ascension and Morrowind. So it always changes
Soon it will probably be Farcry, Stalker, Doom³ and HL². But eye candy isn't all

Most beaautiful game ive seen is Microsoft flight simulator 2004,the landscapes are jaw dropping and very realistic, its especially neat to fly over lasvegas at night time, not to mention they have over 20,000 different airports u can fly out of not to mention they all look like the real thing and nothing in the game looks the same its all very realistic. My personal favorite is flying over Niagra falls watching the water fall very sweet indeed.

yes very nice

but even nicer is Microsoft combat flight simulator 2004, same graphics, but you can shoot at ground targets and enemy planes too. plus the blowing up animations are stunning

Syberia's pre-rendered graphics were quite lovely. Myst III: Exile is also another beautiful game.

As for "real" 3D game... Well, there's Pirates of Carribean and Morrowind.

One of the most beautiful things in both Homeworlds happends when you hit pause right in the middle of battle. You get beautiful frozen picture of a fight, it is awesome

Bane

As for flight sims I haven't played them a lot, but I liked IL-2
Very realistic (hehe I spent a week learning how to land a plane, nOOb ).

somehow the newer flight sim games never seem to be exciting or engaging enough for me to really sit down & play. the best flight sim for me is still x-wings vs tie fighter.

oh yeah, this is about the most gorgeous game ....

...I've just been stunned speechless. These are screenshots from the MMORPG Lineage II, presented by a beta-tester. (MsAnnThrope, are you still around here? You made me want to die just looking at these pretty pictures.)

I forgot: Project Nomads. Incredable graphics! It's the only place where I've seen a large, full moon below the horizon.

They haven't released a whole lot yet, but Elsewhere Entertainment, formerly Appeal, their upcoming game Symbiosis is looking great. The screenshots from the cancelled Outcast 2 looked wonderful already, and that's been what, two years ago... We don't have a lot of game developers in our little country, but if they make something, it's kinda... "wow"!

Some screenies

Another screenie, this one goes back to the Outcast 2 development days though, I think.

Same with this one

It was cancelled ? This is the first time I hear that (sorry for not being informed very well ... ).

Yup, publisher stopped the cash flow, not sure if they went bankrupt... sounds familiar?

From what I see now, it's X2: The Threat .
It's the best looking space sim so far, with the most original ships ever. It's what Freelancer should've been:
X2
- DYNAMIC trade system (it was supposed to be in Freelancer but turned away)
- You do not have to follow the storyline (although you can get bored without it)
- You can exit your ship (even in space), walk on stations and such...
- You can have your own fleet (which you can command from the bridge): there's no limit on the number of ships: it can be 200 or 300 or...
- You can build and menage factories on different planets
- There are over 70 ships you can fly, from alien fighters to 2km-long battlecruisers
- Manual docking and joystick support (unlike Freelancer)
- You can convince the enemy to surrender and you can then capture his ship, while he ejects. You may add the ship to your fleet by assigning a pilot to it, or you can sell it on some shipyard. In the original X: Beyond Fronteer, a moderator claims to finish the game with only one fight (using ONE torpedo).

The list goes on, the game comes in november, if everything egosoft says is true, this is the next Elite!

BTW, you can download the benchmark (in 'download' selection) to see some eyecandy.
