Hi everyone,

Like every human being , I tend to get bored sometimes. I usualy start drawing something when that happens. So one day I decided to make my biggest comic book ever (I've made some more in the past). And around this time, it's getting finished.

I know I cannot draw as well as most people, but I still continued without following anything like Art school, and now i'm pretty proud to present to you
"The Metal Plague"
http://users.pandora.be/Yannos/Comic%20:%20Metal%20Plague/

I'm currently in the process of translating everything to English, but that takes quite a while, so now the non-dutch speaking people will only be able to look at the pictures i'm afraid. Also, the Orc scout who kills one of the machines with a Katana, is called Jurak, just like our very own Forum Orc <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

ps:Sorry for my terrible handwriting <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

ps2:Use "Last Modified to have a kind of chronological order of the pictures, nr 3 and 4 are somewhere in the middle though.

Yannos,

Since I am on 56k, I could not see ALL of your drawings but it's a good start.

Which is the most important: do not stop! Many great artists were self-taught, it's only a matter of time and effort.

I have some advices:

First, I do know if you use it, but HERE are some tips on how to draw the body and the head. I made it quickly in flash, drawing with my mouse, tired, so sorry for the wierd looks. I usually do it on paper (Wish I had one of those Wacom tablets...). Anyway, a 'normal' adult can mesure between 6.5 and 7 heads (note that comic book characters range from 8-9 to infinite). Before you draw, make a sketch of the pose and proportions. It might be hard, it might be annoying, but the proportions are 50% of a sucessful drawing.

Also, do not rush. Do NOT briskly switch between pannels. Try to imagine a movie and you are the director. How to position the camera on this scene, how it will pan... Take your time. A professional artist usually DRAWS one page per day. I say draws, because often the inking is not done by the same person. If you should, work for the whole week on a single page but so it will be good. Make pauses, listen to music (classic music helps, although if you put AC/DC on maximum volume, it might help you too [it does for me]), walk arround... But try to do your best.

Also, if you don't have a book, buy one or borrow it in a library. It's an invaluable tool in drawings.

Here are the ones I'd reccomend if you want to draw comics:

- "How to draw the MARVEL® way" By Stan Lee
- "How to draw comic book heroes and villains" by Christopher Hart
There was another, better than "HTD:comic book..." by the same author, but I do not remember the title. It might not be the best choice, though, but Christopher's tips how to draw heads are easier than most.
Do not buy/read books by Joe Kubert if you want to LEARN how to draw: they are mostly for reference, no matter what is the title.

Well, that's all I have to say.

Good job Yannos!

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" /> would you expect anything less from an Orc? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />

- "How to draw comic book heroes and villains" by Christopher Hart

héh, I actually HAVE that one! I got it for my birthday last year!
Thanks for the help, Death <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

Also, the first 6 or 7 pages are in very high quality, hence the high file size, the later ones are smaller, usually between 300-500 kb.

Great! It's a good book, Yannos. Keep practicing <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

As for the pages: It takes 2 minutes to open a page on 56k (at least for me). I might watch it later....
