Raze, i did like you, i refused to burn the cart, but i bought the wine by clicking on the trade icon.
I kept the wine in my inventory and it did not disappear.
The wine did not come back, by itself, on his little legs, to the bedroom <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />
That's funny, things are different for both of us.

Did you buy the wine before or after refusing his request? I bought it before talking to him. Maybe refusing to burn the cart set some variable so the game would move the wine to the floor of the room when he was arrested, which wasn't taking into account I already had it? Or maybe it was just a glitch.

I think it was after refusing its request, but i don't remember very well.
I was surprised to see that the wine quest was solved as i refused to burn the cart.
Anyway, with this solution we can get a big number of XP points too.
You said that we can use any bottle of wine for Corrina's quest, i did not know that.

What about before the fight? Do they last long enough into the fight to be of use?

Not in my case (Aura of guarding is the only one IMO) - Burleigh deals with high damage if you're hit.

let me share with u my take on the bar fight. u know survivor's skin of poison (or something like that) or is it poison salve? use it(at least level 2 or 3) before joining the fight & make sure aura of guarding is activated before joining the fight.

that's how my mage survives.
