hello plowking (i can't remember; irish or scots or maybe english?),

a note about your flash content in your webpage. i think u may have used a microsoft software to edit your webpage, therefore it's compliant only to IE. to make it friendly for most browsers (that can be a reality), u need to make som adjustments to your html coding in the webpage.

for example,

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="700" height="355" align="middle" codebase="http://active.macromedia.com/flash5/cabs/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0">
<param name="MOVIE" value="cross.swf">
<param name="PLAY" value="true">
<param name="LOOP" value="true">
<param name="QUALITY" value="high">
<param name="SCALE" value="noborder">
<embed src="cross.swf" width="90%" height="90%" play="true" loop="true" quality="high" scale="noborder" align="center" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">

ok, all the lines except the last two (i think but correct me if i'm wrong) are for IE so that the flash content can show up correctly. notice the first line with exact numbers for width & height. that is for IE.

for netscape or other mozilla browsers, the last two lines contain the percentages for width & height needed to show the content correctly.

so that means if u want your webpage to show correctly in most if not all browsers, u have to include codes that comply to most browsers. u can use the ones above & try it out.

do try out www.w3schools.com

hope that helps.

Great stuff janggut!

I'll stick that code in when I get the chance! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Getting annoyed though with the web host I'm using...files take forever to update, and xml only appears when it seems to want to!! I just don't get it!

Anyone know of a good web host that doesn't fill every page with banner ads?

Flash. The best tool to make grafical websites. That melting thing looks to me like he has used a mask. I must say that I am impressed with your use of XML files. For my new site I will try to use a Database (mysql) and flash (asking for trouble I know).

I know next to nothing about mysql...best of luck, your site is great BTW!

I used a mask as you guessed for the melting effect...never built a site before and so learning a lot. I was waiting for something I could work on and hold my interest, so a fansite for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> is a good one.

I believe when you do something like this you should do it to further your knowledge. That's why I'm using xml. It's a pain at first, but makes things soooo much quicker to update when you get the hang of it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mage.gif" alt="" />

Great stuff Lynn, and thanks for the mention too Morbo!!

Only thing is that at the mo the link on the fansite list is the old one. I had to change hosts because the other one was too much hassle! Their cache would only renew every 5 or so hours so I never saw my updates until the next day!!

Used Free Webs instead! Much better and no banners or pop ups! Class!

This is my new and final address

@Lynn - I sent ya a mail already about updating the link to this new one. Sorry for the trouble. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />

BTW; If any one know a free webhost that supports PHP and Mysql without adds (search for the holy grail I know) would be welcome.

I just wish I had some more graphical skills to make nice art and such, but I can actually only work with MS paint and MS Photoshop (for transparancy) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

the other programs are way to difficult for me

hihihi!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

sorry viper. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> i had to laugh when i read the part that goes 'MS photoshop' as MS means microsoft & the closest thing to a photo editting software that they've made is called MS Photo Editor. as for photoshop, it's from Adobe.

It's easy enough with flash to make a good looking graphical site. I took the difficult road though of using xml for most of the text, and it was hard work getting it to work in netscape too (but I'll thank Janggut for helping me with that bit.)

I've still some work to do on it though...seems to never end!
