I don't remember the specifics of the demo very well, but ctrl-S and ctrl-L are the default hot keys for quick save/load in the full game. Is the hotkey section of the options available in the demo?
They were not bragging about having a quick save; this is a checkbox feature, that people look for.
The demo was released several months before the game, and is based on older code. Some features/artwork were not complete at the time, or just not included. At the end of the demo you can save and reload the game, then continue to other areas. You will need to use control-click to attack, since the artwork for some of the monsters was not included, so they are invisible.
