calling all friend from the anti-janus movement!
lycos UK has informed me that my e-mail's POP3 feature will be disabled 21st of this month. does anyone know of any other free e-mail service that has free POP3 feature? yahoo isn't free. hotmail has too much junk. i used to pay for POP3 mail (netaddress) but after finding out lycos UK's great free service (15MB space, free 50MB webspace, POP3 enabled), i changed.
but now, lycos UK changed its mind & i'm in quandary again.
so please divine dudes & dudettes, help this desperado.
btw, lycos UK offers mail sync via outlook (sucks monkey balls & attracts too much viral attention). i know eudora doesn't have mail sync feature. any good e-mail client that caters mail sync but safer & more stable than outlook?

I use myrealbox.com for a mail list. MyRealBox is an Internet service based on Novell NetMail and eDirectory. The sole purpose of this site is to enable the NetMail engineering team to gain valuable information about how these products function in real-world high-volume situations. In essence, MyRealBox is a very large beta test site for NetMail. Many issues with NetMail are discovered and corrected through MyRealBox before they make their way into the commercially available product. Because of the testing nature of this site, service outages are to be expected from time to time as problems are discovered and diagnosed. We make every effort to minimize these outages; nevertheless, they do occur and are unpredictable in nature. After a service outage, the result is usually a more stable and better service. Despite the warning, I have only had occasional problems, and then it is rare that everything isn't fine a few minutes later. See also; Free Email Address Directory

I'm using GMX for several years now. I don't know whether it is available in English, too, but it has POP3 and a good Spam blocker / filter. www.gmx.de

janggut, If it's only about mail and not about extra stuff anymore I wouldn't even bother with pop3 anymore. You do have a webbased account, don't you?

hi seth!
i want POP3 only because i want to download & keep my e-mails, especially ones from friends & relatives. that's the nicest thing about POP3 for me. plus i can read my mail offline.
i hate web-based mail for the fact that i have to slog through adds & banners & stuff i don't want just to read some e-mail. it slows the whole process which should be simple in the first place. plus, most web-based mail service are trapped with spam & i no longer have patience with spam nor forwarded jokes from anybody, even friends or relatives. did i mention that i hate web-based mail?
lycos is offering mail sync which means i have to use outlook to read my mail as an alternative to web-based method. i hate that as well because outlook is a favourite among virus authors & distributors. is there any other e-mail client that can do mail sync like outlook? sync is nice for those on the move but i am not. on the move, that is.
i just want a simple service: download e-mail safely & without hassle. & of course to avoid web-based mail checking & ms outlook as much as possible.
thanks for replying.

Well... doesn't your ISP provides a mail addie?
And there is webbased mail with commercial stuff on the site (ofcourse) but without popups.
But every webbased mail has a limit ofcourse.
No need to thank me. Specially for not much help.

I also use gmx. It's totally free, but I don't think there is an english version (gmx.com is also German). I don't know, aren't there English services? I know some more German ones with POP3. Hey, but if you manage to struggle through the registration process, it shouldn't be a problem. With pop3 and smtp, I never even go to the gmx page. With them you get 2 Email-Adresses (I use one for Forums and stuff and one for Friends), and 10MB webspace. I never had problems with them.

maybe it's called EMX?
G - german M - mail X- something, or maybe service
E - english M - mail X - something, but since alrik cannot find any evidence, so it means nothing.
the thing about me is that my ISP's e-mail service sucks monkey balls. always down & they have this stupid filter(censorshite) on as well.
any more help, people? tomorrows i won't be able to check my mail via eudora anymore & that means i have to resort to stoopid ms outlook(hackers' beloved target).

GMX is Global Message eXchange - yes, they're very global with the restriction to German-speaking people. I've googled a bit, and found these sites, with listings of free pop3 services. http://freemailguide.com/free_pop3_email.htmlhttp://www.worldofinternetcafes.de/email.htmlhttp://www.iopus.com/guides/bestpopsmtp.htmThe last one even explains, that GMX discontinued their english language support, so Alrik remembered correctly. As I have no experience with any of these services, I can't tell you about reliability (and mass of ads), but perhaps it helps.
