Thanks - finally got to the Larian Studio. I must have been getting to THAT entrance all along - it just looked identical to the area outside the original cave.
Regarding the dragon armour. This is the first time I've heard mention fo a letter. Then that's why this quest doesn't trigger. Means I have to look around either in the dungeon or go back and snoop in the Mayor's house.
